I don't agree with the spyware or border searches, but what's wrong with the internet monitering? I don't see the problem with checking transfers to make sure illegal files aren't being traded.
Also, the tone of that site you linked pisses me off. It seems like they're just pissed off because the government is trying to enforce copyright laws, not because of any privacy matters.

The government is not trying to push these policies. The RIAA/MPAA are trying to make the government enforce these policies and are also trying to make the government(taxpayers) pay for these policies to be implemented.
Also what happens with stuff you've bought legally? I'd be pissed if their spyware started removing stuff I bought on iTunes or stuff I've ripped from a CD that I've paid for.

Sorry, it sounds like they're just pissed off that someone is trying to make it so copyright laws are enforced. Better?

I read that article as well. Still the RIAA/MPAA is still trying to get these new policies enforced. It will be interesting to see how these policies are handled by the government given these new findings on piracy.

I don't think that is the case. To me is sounds like they are pissed because first the RIAA/MPAA want taxpayers to pay for this, legal stuff might get erased, and they also want customs/airports to confiscate stuff as well. Like "Sorry sir...we think your laptop has copyrighted material on it, we'll be taking that laptop."
Another great article on this:
