I saw this movie about an hour ago. I think it was amazing.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting but I was entertained and would see it again. I didn't get to see in 3D but even 2D it was worth the money.
I'm going to wait until more people see this to really elaborate. I wrote a Review for it here. It covers all my initial thoughts on the movie and hopefully won't give away too much.
I'm not a spoiler person, but I think most should really enjoy this.
I rate it 5/5.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I should be going Sunday to see it in 3D.

Wasn't Marilyn Manson supposed to be working on an adaptation of Alice in Wonder Land?

Marilyn Manson is still working on an adaptation.
I really don't know about this. I want to like it, but Helena Bonham Carter is a dealbreaker. She looks so fucking hideous as the Queen of Hearts that I absolutely cannot stand to look at her.

It wasn't even the same Alice in Wonderland story as the original. Total revamp but for what it's worth, it was good.

Just doesn't look that good to me, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory all over again.

Or Planet of the Apes. Tim Burton isn't good at reimagining existing movies.

Well he is to an extent. They all makes shit loads of money, and he spends shit loads making them so he is obviously doing something right. Personally, I haven't given a shit about anything he has done since "Nightmare before Christmas". I'll probably see this on DVD sometime. But yeah Syd, I am so totally grossed out by Helena Bonham Carter too, even normally. She is an extremely ugly woman, and that's being generous. She makes me gag a little in pretty much everything I have ever seen her in.

If it's a sequel why is it called Alice in Wonderland?

Corpse Bride was decent. Perhaps not as good as Nightmare, but definitely worth seeing. Big Fish was cute, which is absolutely a backhanded compliment. Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow were both post-Nightmare too, and they're fantastic.

I would like to agree but Alice in Wonderland had a sequel.
Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there. It was Lewis Carrolls second book.
I still want to see this though. I all of Tim Burtons work. I think he is a genius.
EDIT:
Turns out:
"The 2010 movie "Alice in Wonderland" by Tim Burton contains elements of both Alice in Wonderland and Through the looking Glass"
So it could be a direct sequel to them both.

Saw Alice in Wonderland.
It was...
Well, it was a good movie. And it had Alice in Wonderland characters.
But I wouldn't call it an Alice in Wonderland movie.
See, for me, Alice in Wonderland isn't the Mad Hatter or the caterpillar or even the chesire cat. It's about logic problems and words and social commentary and such. I love the books and the cartoon movie not for the characters, but for the ideas behind everything. The books were great in this regard and the cartoon was fun and had some of the same themes.
This movie? It was good. Don't get me wrong. But there were no clever rhymes and silly things. (Hardly anything was silly at all, for that matter.)They didn't ridicule Alice for following social norms of a world far different from the one she is in. They didn't sing silly songs with strange characters and prattle about a moral different than the one given. The didn't disseminate language usage.
Mad Hatter stole the show. No surprise there. The story was almost as much about him as it was about Alice. Depp didn't do a bad job. He was a very creepy but lovable character. He was truly crazy though. Not like the Kooky Mad Hatters of old. He had a lot of... fledgling personalities inside of him. One quoted the books (I think. It was rather hard to hear.) Another was an angry scottish hero-type. He did make hats though, which was nice to see the Hatter do, even though it gave a very Edward Scissorhands vibe.
The completely fucked up my favorite character though. The Dormouse! It wasn't sleepy! Or a guy for that matter. It was a cute little chickmouse that wanted to be a brave knight. It was a nice character but... I like my sleepy dormouse.
tl;dr: Alice in Wonderland: None of that cute and silly vibe with a bit more creepy. Come for the Depp, stay for the... Depp?
EDIT: After a quick reread of what I wrote, I think it could come across as me not liking the movie. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I liked it. It wasn't what I expected. It didn't have a lot of parts I liked. But they talked about the books. And they did a good job on a lot of things.
I just wanted the Dormouse to have narcolepsy or something

It was okay. But not nearly as good as the hype made it out to be. And I don't like the way they turned Alice into a dragonslayer.
And you all suck. Helena Bonham Carter is awesome, except for the way she ruined the sixth Harry Potter movie.
By the way, I get the pun with "Mad as a hatter" and "Mad as a march hare", but what's with the Dormouse? Is there a pun I'm not getting?

Stupid and pointless. I could hardly stand it. It lacked wit or whimsy, the action scene at the end is offensive to all taste, and Burton's favorite actor and actress get way too much screen time.

I know I'm a bit late to this party, but Burton is married to Helena Bonham Carter

Well, what I mean is the other two are expressions that mean, in the King's English, "Completely batshit insane". Is there a similar expression for dormice?

Lottel, your review made me a lot less excited to see the movie, but I'm glad I read it before I go this weekend. Now I can adjust my expectations accordingly, and enjoy it for what it is. I can't believe they left out...well...it sounds like the whole point of the book. Wtf, Burton??
Usa, I have no idea on the doormouse. I'll do some research and report back if I find anything interesting.
