They have the gnome in L4D2 in Dark Carnival and I've tried to do it but it's kind of hard when your teammates don't give you cover as you try to get the gnome let alone have you complete the episode.

I never tried, I always saw him sitting there in the beginning and contemplated it but I always ended up just flying solo.

Well I will say the L4D2 challenge is harder, as it is a team based game. Even if you have three other human players, you're still lacking one. Now Half Life is mostly solo work, so it's easier. I've done the L4D2 one with only computer players and it sucked. Haha.
