This guy has an insane amount of time on his hands. I once finished Zelda without a sword (excluding killing Gannon of course) but this guy did it without any heart containers, shields, rings, sword, magic key, and all kinds of other ridiculous rules, well just watch...

The "ridiculous rules" can be summed up in one sentence: Only get what you need to beat the game. The wand is normally not needed, but you need something to replace the sword.

Robot, I think the gauntlet is thrown.

I tried beating the original without dying once...no emulators...just the standard NES. I got the the 6th dungeon and finally died. Any other Zelda (excluding the 2nd) can be easily beaten without dying or even taking much damage.

I got a "000" game on Zelda 1 (first quest), LttP, and Link's Awakening. And that LttP one was in one sitting, too (ugh).

I've had one-continue runs on Zelda II and Zelda 1 Second Quest. My Zelda II walkthrough is a 2-continue run.

I beat OoT with only 3 hearts (though I admit I did use the health upgrade that halves damage or whatever).

Well without a sword you can't exactly beat the game, but you can get to the end. This guy was obviously trying to make it as hard as possible.

Maybe I'm just not competitive, but I never found challenges like this fun to do myself (although they're quite entertaining to watch.) Just too darn frustrating. I'd much rather do a speedrun of something like Ninja Gaiden than try to slog my way through a Zelda game with both hands tied.

Yeah, I've always been the same way SH. For some people though, I guess the extreme challenge and frustration is what makes it fun for them.

I guess with some people, they've played the game hundreds of times since it came out, they get bored and look for new ways to spice it up. When you become that familiar with it, you like to kick it up a notch. Not me though, I've only beaten the first Zelda twice.

Yeah, that's how I feel. Most games I don't play over and over, but as I've said before, I like games to be challenging. Most games with legitimate, non-cheap difficulty get to be pretty easy once you've played them a million times. Putting stupid restrictions on yourself like that can make them fun, again, once they've gotten boring.

I actually find most of these achievements impressive. For me personally I can get through many Zelda games without dying much, however I take damage regularly. Also I tend to go for as many items as I can acquire to make the adventure less painful.

My best Zelda tally was 5 continues in LttP. I actually didn't die, but I couldn't play through in one sitting, so I saved and quit several times. I could probably get through the original without dying, but I haven't enjoyed it since playing LttP. I found the original to be a little boring.

That's why I play Tetris The Grand Master. Now I can never go back and it makes me cringe watching people not even trying to get tetrises.

Yeah, I've seen these videos. A lot of the challenge is about patience, slowly trying to wear away at the tough parts bit by bit. I could do this, but I have something else planned for Zelda.

Here's a real challenge. Try and complete a run of Zelda's first quest while having sex. If you climax before rescuing Zelda, the run is null and void. You will have to master tantra to achieve this.

Either master tantra or hook up with Sarah Jessica Parker.

I think he actually did six 59 minute videos. I only watched part of one. Enough to get the gist of it anyway.

I don't think I'll ever try this though. I would get way too frustrated and I simply don't have that kind of time on my hands. I would rather spend my time playing something new than trying to relive old games that I've played a thousand times.

I usually find these to be pretty entertaining in that they take an old familiar game that you might have played through a gazillion times, and they add a new level of challenge to them.

I wouldn't dare attempt it, but they are kinda neat.
