I have car questions, but I figured a general car trouble shooting topic would be the way to go instead of just "Wahh, my car is busted!"
So, question the first; My passenger's side front turn signal cover is missing a big chunk out of it. The bulb isn't broken, the headlight and turn signal work fine, just literally the top layer of orange plastic is busted, the clear layer over the bulb itself beneath is completely intact. Will this however cause me to fail a safety check if I get inspected with it?

Probably. You fail it if the headlight's cover is damaged. I don't think they care that only the turn signal light's cover is broken and not the rest.

I've seen people use tape the same color as the cover to patch the hole until they can get their hands on a replacement cover, not sure of the legality of that though. Next time you see a cop flag him down and ask him!

Damn. Somebody just tonight told me I'd probably pass as long as the light and signal worked. I'll get a picture later when I'm not so lazy and it's not 2 AM.

I rear ended some guy a couple months ago and my front right light was cracked and when I took it to the shop, the guy said that I was lucky a cop didn't pull me over because it's illegal.

My car flunked safety because the tube that squirts the windshield wiper fluid wasn't attached to the windshield wiper. I was pissed.

Seriously? My windshield wiper tubes have never worked and I've passed every time.
