...is the most underrated and best racing game of all time.
I hated this game when it originally came out, but once I sat down and played it, I really really loved it. This is what Mario Kart 64 should've been, especially with a story mode and the ability to unlock characters. Unlocking T.T. was one of the most challenging things I've ever done in a game, yet it was so worth it.
One of the early things they mentioned about this game, was how all the characters were going to get spin off games, which was the case with both Banjo and Conker, both of which had awesome N64 games. I wonder what would've happened if they went through with that with all the characters. Anyways, I always played at TipTop, since he was probably the easiest to turn with, I never even fucked around with Krunch or that badger, since it seemed like suicide.
Anyways, what are your views on the game?

I like this game as well... but I've never been able to get the Rocket levels on the 64 version... how is it really done?

Pretty sure you have to collect all the balloons and amulets to unlock it. The only guy in the game I absolutely HATED racing was the octopus...he was extremely difficult to beat and allowed absolutely no room for error.

Fuck that octopus. The second Octopus race in the mirrored adventure mode is absolutely obscene.
I absolutely love this game. One of my absolute favorites. Krunk and Banjo are usually stupid choices, but they are godlike in the hovercrafts once you learn how to use them. But Tiptup? You have to for Pipsy.

I think the Dragon was the worst, probably because I fail at the plane. Never got into space because of that asshole. Maybe backwards Octopus as well.
I think the soundtrack was pretty kickin.

My mom rented this from Blockbuster a couple weeks after it came out. Best racing game on the N64 in my opinion next to Mario Kart.
I don't remember much about it now, as it's been a decade and some change now since I played it, except I apparently sucked with the plane, and there was this all-water battle mode stage with hovercrafts I owned at with Conker.

Wizpig is a joke with Pipsy. It really sucks that I waited until after I beat the game to unlock T.T. since he fucking ruled. I easily kicked the most ass with him.
They should actually bring T.T. back as a racer in the new Mario Kart games.
Or better yet, just replace Mario Kart with Diddy Kong Racing!

Easily the best racing game for the N64. Only if it had well known characters outside of Diddy, Conker and Banjo.

The only Diddy Kong racing game I ever played was on the DS.

Diddy Kong Racing was a very fun game. It's pretty basic and easy to pick up, but after some practice you can completely surpass the difficulty curve and winning becomes pretty easy.
I remember how me and a friend were kids when this game came out - we were pretty excited on all the character spin-offs as Doddsino mentioned. Mainly the point I'd like to bring up is how me and said friend were following how Conker was going to have some happy-friendly adventure game, and then years later I learn that it was completely revamped into Conker's Bad Fur Day. As Dave Chappelle always says, "Better not bring your kids!"
Also, T.T. is absolutely ridonkulous. You can win the game with relative ease with most of the game's characters, especially the lightweights, but T.T. is truly outrageous.

I'll also note that the characters all seemed different as far as how each one raced...something you didn't get from Mario Kart, because in a sense...Mario Kart characters almost all play about the same with very slight differences. Going from Pipsy to Krunch was weird, I mean Krunch is fast as fuck but absolutely reckless to play as. Again, one of the reasons I liked this game.
And yes, it does get pretty easy once you master the curve. I don't think I ever lost to Taj...which I'm amazed you couldn't unlock his Hindu ass.

Are you shitting me dawg?
I bought a N64 a couple of months back and bought Diddy Kong Racing for it. It's awful. I couldn't even distinguish where the track starts or ends, the only way i could make it round was by by driving and looking at the map.
Not to mention the map is just a big blob and you can't even see where the corners are so you are driving and then bam you hit a wall. I couldn't believe how bad it was.
Maybe when you know the tracks its better but as a put the cartridge in and play sort of game it was unplayable.
