In February, Majesco will be released Data East Arcade Classics, a collection of 15 Data East games for the Wii set to retail at $19.99.

What's in:

BurgerTime
Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory
Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja
Burnin' Rubber
Heavy Barrel
Caveman Ninja (aka Joe & Mac)
Magical Drop III
Side Pocket
Too Crude
Secret Agent
Express Raider
Lock 'n' Chase
Street Hoop
Wizard Fire
Super Real Darwin

Unfortunately, since Data East no longer exists, it's licenses are held by multiple companies. This collection is under license exclusively from G-Mode. So certain games are not included. A list of notable games not on the collection can be found below. The current license holder on most of these games in unknown:

Super Break (Data East's first game, a Breakout variation)
Karnov (license owned by Paon)
Captain America & The Avengers (licensing issues in addition to unknown ownership)
RoboCop & RoboCop2 (licensing issues in addition to unknown ownership)
Chelnov: Atomic Runner (license owned by Paon)
Act-Fancer: Cybernetick Hyper Weapon
Night Slashers
Karnov's Revenge (license owned by Paon)
Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty
Burning Rush

The following are games which G-Mode does own, but are not included:

Desert Assault
Joe & Mac Returns
Super Burger Time

And most importantly: Tattoo Assassins

Yes, the massively expensive unreleased Mortal Kombat clone that stalled in production and then was abandoned is owned by G-Mode. They should have included it as a gag.

Overall, the collection is solid, but I'm hestitant to buy it for one reason. Karnov is the first boss in Bad Dudes, and his name appears on a sign in the background of that level. If the game is edited to change him, or remove the sign, then fuck it. I passed on King of Fighters Collection and SNK Arcade Classic, not mention several VC games for similar reasons.

Man, half of those games are crap. I won't pay for this.

Honestly, BurgerTime + Joe & Mac + Bad Dudes + Magical Drop III is reason enough to own this. The rest is just extra stuff. They really should have tried to get RoboCop on there. Easily one of the five best licensed games from that era.

I loved playing Side Pocket and Joe & Mac as a kid.

Makes me happy that I purchased a Wii today. I'll certainly look into this.

Some signs in background flashed, and they edited them to be stagnant because they were worried about inducing epileptic attacks. The iconic red and white flashing at the end of matches in KOF '97 was also removed. You know, because of the savage KOF '97 seizure outbreak that nearly destroyed Korea. Oh wait, THAT NEVER FUCKING HAPPENED.

I guess I could do without the flashing signs, but the overdone flashing red screens cannot be done away with. I loved those.
