Seriously. People give Microsoft shit over resource management, but iTunes and accompanying Quicktime package are some one of the most poorly programmed, resource-wasting piece of software ever. My computer is three years old. Ancient by today's standards, but it was a top model when I bought it. iTunes takes two full minutes to load. Two minutes. Not even my OS takes that long to load. I mean, what the fuck? This isn't fucking Crysis; it should load immediately. But it doesn't. Fuck iTunes.

I completely agree. I use it grudgingly because I love podcasts and wouldn't trade my ipod, but the software is a piece of shit.
Not to mention despite the fact my rig is near top of the line, I can't run another resource-intensive program while itunes is open, or things slow to a crawl. Its bullcrap.

And here I was thinking my computer was a lemon. Looks like I'm not the only one who needs to wait a decade for Itunes to get its shit together.
I basically like how it works when it finally starts, though. And since I have an Ipod, it would be too much of a hassle to use anything else. Although the Itunes Music Store has turned into a clusterfuck of ads and other bullshit recently. They need to streamline that shit and make it not look like Rainbow Bright had her period on it.

I have never once used iTunes in my life. I have my old ass version of Winamp that loads in like less than three seconds along with my saved playlists. It's just a thousand times faster and there is no way in fuck I could wait for 2 full minutes for my music playing program to load, and hell my PC is about 5 or 6 years old.

I'm just waiting for Pitchfork media to make an article on how iTunes is the greatest invention ever made to help them discover the most unknown, obscure bands. Than toss them away once they stumble upon an even lesser known band.
If it didn't have the podcast feature, no thank you. Also the whole "rent" a downloaded video/movie thing is just so dumb.

Oh god, I would NEVER use iTunes as a music player on a PC. I too, use an old version of Winamp, 2.80. I've tried newer versions and I've been happy with them, except for one thing: my Use Your Illusion II skin is incompatible with them.
Only reason I use iTunes is for uploading songs onto my iPhone and occasionally upgrading my iPhone software. Of course, it can't even upgrade the iPhone software properly. TWICE, I've had it crash my iPhone. Luckily, it makes a full data back-up before upgrading, so things ended up okay. But still. It nearly erased everything on my phone.

I have never used iTunes in my life and never want to, I will never ever buy individual mp3s of songs. I'd much rather buy the albums legit with a physical copy and a case, and later rip the CD and convert it for mp3s of the songs.

You can buy whole albums, and in fact, whole discographies, on iTunes - if you so desire. And yes, it is cheaper than buying each individual mp3.

After reading this, I purposely turned my iTunes off just so I can turn it back on and time it. Know how long it took? 7 seconds. Clearly something is wrong with all of your computers. I think iTunes works just fine, it has it's flaws but it rarely gives me problems. That being said, I rarely ever buy albums or songs on iTunes.

Like some of you have mentioned, I'm also old-fashioned in that I like to have real CD's rather than digitally downloading music. I do like to use the Itunes store and such things to sample music, though. So that was the basis of my complaint there.

My itunes used to load super slow and behave very sluggish until I formatted my PC over the summer. After a fresh install, it was surprisingly fast and responsive. Now it only takes a few seconds to load up and my computer is at least 5 years old with only 512MB of RAM, effectively making it an obsolete P.O.S.
If you cannot live with itunes, there are a handful of alternatives for transferring songs to your ipod. Just about every media player out there nowadays has an ipod plugin. Winamp is my primary media player and sometimes I just use that to do transfers when I don't feel like opening up a separate program.
If you do use itunes to transfer music, I suggest using a different program for actually managing your music library. Itunes tends to become very sluggish when you have a massive library of music linked up to it, whereas other players like winamp and foobar are not affected nearly as much.

I used to have major problems with the Zune software, but it isn't so bad anymore. Still a total piece of shit compared to VLC (or even Windows Media Player), but I at least like it better than iTunes.

My iTunes loads without problem, and I just figured out how to have my own Library as not to mix music with the other people in my house, this makes it kick ass IMO, not that I give them any money.

OMFG Itunes sucks...and my problem with it is not only with the software and how buggy it is but making purchases... This actually just happened to me over the holiday and numerous other times in the past:
I purchased the update for my Ipod so that I could be up to date with the software on the device. Well, little did I know, Itunes/Apple charged me 4 FKN times for that same update on my bank card. I call the company and those scumbags tell me it's out of their control and to go talk to my bank. I inform them that this has happened 3 times in the past and I'm cancelling my account as soon as I get my money back. I am never EVER using that ridiculous program to make purchases again. I was stupid to give it that many chances hoping they fixed whatever bug is causing Itunes to charge you multiple times for one item you are purchasing.

My guess is your computer loads the purchase slow so you keep clicking "BUY" and it runs multiple transactions, just a guess since it happens to you often.
And also, you have to pay for software updates on your iPod?

I know way better then to hit 'Buy' more than once. Or to hit refresh, back, etc., that's any internet buyer's number one rule. The Itunes receipt thingy only shows one transaction for the software update, however their system charged it multiple times. Had I done what you suggested and hit buy numerous times it would have shown up as a purchase on my receipt instead of a random charge/hold on my bank card.
And it seems so that it costs money to update Ipod software. Atleast on mine I had to, I have the Touch. Not that it's a lot of money to be stressing over, it is just freaking irritating because banks suck at returning money in a timely fashion!

So much for my edumucation then, eh?
I'm freakin' done with iTunes... according to my bank they have gotten so many complaints about that scummy program/company overcharging that I barely had to explain myself and the situation.
