Ok, so I snagged a used Wii with two controllers and a sd card full of vc games for my girlfriend for Christmas, but the controllers do not have the nunchuck. I haven't been able to fiddle around with it yet, but I was wondering, what games if any require the nunchuck?
Oh, it was marked NO GAME at the pawnshop, but there was a game in it, so free game!
Except it's Game Party, which I hear is shovelware crap.

NES VC games do not require the nunchuk, nor do TG-16 or SMS ones. Pretty much every other VC system requires either the classic controller or a GCN one.
Most actual disc-based games require the nunchuk.

What's TG-16 or SMS?
I plan on getting her Twilight Princess because she likes fantasy adventure stuff and has never played a Zelda game, I'm assuming I'll need to grab a nunchuck for it or get the GC version and a GC controller, right?

Well if I got the Gamecube version of Twilight the GC controller should work.

Correct. The GC version of Twilight Princess is also long out of print.
I don't know if later Wii releases of Twilight Princess fixed this, but there are one or two incorrect east-west references in the Wii version, because they flipped the entire game.

Sww I was wondering about that, seems like I could get the same game for cheaper with the correct non flipped aspect if I went with the gc version. Too bad it's out of print.

But I still say get the classic controllers. The Gamecube controller is absolutely horrid for SNES games.

I really do not see the big deal about using the GC controller for SNES games. I beat Mario World and ActRaiser with it, without any problems whatsoever.

I think that pickings are going to be slim at the game stores what with the encroaching madness of Christmas and all. Wish me luck!

There's an easy way to tell if any game requires a nunchuck--
Look at the top-right corner of the back of the box. In light blue you'll usually see at the very least, a Wii-mote. If there is a nunchuck in blue right beside it, you're going to need more than your good ol' screen breaker.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

You pretty much need the nunchuk to play almost every Wii game so you might as well pick a few up.

Try playing Contra. The NES version is fine, but Contra III is horrid without the classic controller.

I was never good at Contra III anyway, so I doubt I'd see a difference. I was good at SMW (who isn't, right?) and ActRaiser though.

my friend once figured out a way to swim backwards in that level with the star, the yoshi, and the tons of fish. he ended up holding the yoshi to swim faster, gettign the star, and then killing all the fish and getting tons of 1ups.

I don't think this worked in the original version, but in Super Mario World Advance, once you got over 8000, every guy you hit would alternate between 1UP and 2UP. In one of the forest levels, there was a part where you could get the invincibility and then just plow through guys for a bunch of extra lives. It was retarded.
Or, you could just enter Top Secret over and over again.
