All it takes is 10 seconds of your time and you'll be able to send a card to a member of the armed services. I'm sure this would make plenty of them happy especially with Christmas lurking around.
Thanks!

What a wonderful idea, especially for our guys and gals who are away from home, or getting ready to leave to support the Afghanistan surge before Christmas.
Card sent!

I'm wracking my brain for something suitably crazy / hilarious / random before I send one.

I was thinking that would have been the typical reaction to anyone getting one of these as it would be mine as well. It would be kind of weird to get a random card from a random stranger. Do the soldiers know that these are just stock cards off some website? And what if the same guy gets the same card from two different people?

Am I missing something about xerox?
I'm sure they know that these are stock cards. They must tell them or something because there would be a lot of confusion if they didn't know.

Yeah, I mean it's a good gesture and all but it also basically says "I am way too busy to take more than 1 minute to send my own email or card so I'll let some automated service do it for me so in turn I feel better about myself".

I sent in a couple with my own messages. Even if people don't really care when they get them, someone might. It's nice to let them know they're atleast on your mind and not taking a back seat to stupid Tiger Woods and crappy teenage vampire movies.

Yep, acting like a couple of snotty assholes is something to type "ftw" over. Who cares if the cards are stock- you can customize your own message. Who cares if it takes ten seconds- that's long enough to voice appreciation. Just because it's easy doesn't mean it won't be appreciated, and just because it's from a stranger doesn't mean it won't mean anything to the person that gets it.
Hell, if I were over there, I'd actually like getting messages like these from people with no real connection to me. It would make me think the appreciation is genuine.
For those interested, and if you have the time/resources, I'd also recommend getting involved with http://www.anysoldier.com and http://www.booksforsoldiers.com. I've sent a package through the former and just got approved for the latter, and they both seem like good organizations. Even so, I'd be willing to bet that simple gestures like sending an e-card in ten seconds are also good for giving a soldier a little relief.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |
