I'm not a Dragonlance fan, but I had to take notice of this cast which includes: Lex Luthor, Jack Bauer, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Harriet the Spy... er, Dawn Summers. Shocked

All this and from the director of "The Real Ghostbusters" TV series.

Sounds cool, though I'm more familiar with Eberron and Ravenloft than I am Dragonlance.

I have been watching this one for the last ten years. Three "options" have come and gone from studios, before finally a company picked this up to make it an animated feature.... *SIGH*

What would have been interesting was what if the other studios that had optioned it made the film:

In the mid 80'sl, Jim Henson studios had the option on Dragonlance. Would it had been another "Dark Crystal" style movie?

When, Henson's option expired, it was picked up by Universal, who used a smaller budget movie to test the waters in fantasy before making the Dragonlance trilogy. Unfortunately, the "test" movie did not live up to thier hopes. The Movie in question: Dragonheart.

The title of this movie sounds like a Lord of the Rings-themed porno. Twisted Evil

I LOVE Dragonlance, and I am most definately looking forward to the film. Raistlin is, in fact, my favorite charcter ever.

It is not connected to Dragonheart in any way, other than Universal decided to release Dragonheart to see if there was any money in the Fantasy market. I bet they kicked themselves when LOTR hit theaters, when they learned that there is indeed money to made, if you got a good story, and a smart filmmaker.

Dragonheart had a budget of 40 Mil and only grossed $51,367,375 in the states. ($63,900,000 Foreign.)

LOTR:Fellowship had a budget of 93 Mil* and grossed $314,776,170 in the states.
($556,592,194 Foreign)
LOTR:Towers had a budget of 94 Mil* and grossed $341,786,758 in the states.
($584,500,642 Foreign)
LOTR:Return had a budget of $94 Mil* and grossed $377,027,325 in the states.
($741,861,654 Foreign)

*All three were filmed together with a budget of 281 Mil

Basically Universal were idiots. If you give a no nome director and writer a shoestring budget, odds are they are not going to make a blockbuster. If you give a good director and writer all the money they need, they will make a kick ass film. (Unless their name is Kevin Costner.)

It's been a while, but since it's supposed to come out in the 3rd quarter this year, here's the gist:

The current cast is slated as:

Tanis Half-Elven - Michael Rosenbaum
Raistlin Majere - Kiefer Sutherland
Goldmoon - Lucy Lawless
Flint Fireforge / Fewmaster Toede - Fred Tatasciore
Tika Waylan - Michelle Trachtenberg
Caramon Majere - Rino Romano
Tasslehoff Burrfoot - Jason Marsden
Paladine / Fizban - Neil Ross
Sturm Brightblade - Marc Worden
Riverwind / Gilthanas - Phil Lamarr
Bupu - Jentle Phoenix
Laurana - Caroline Gelabert
Takhisis - Nika Futterman
The Forestmaster - Mari Weiss
Elistan - Ben McCain
Pyros - Dee Bradley Baker
Flamestrike - Susan Silo
Onyx - Juliette Cohen

I really hope this voice talent is true. Jack Bauer playing Raistlin is just too cool.

The animatic storyboards should be complete by August.

Both Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis (original authors of the novels) will make a cameo appearance as patrons of the Inn of the Last Home in the movie.

It's supposed to blend both 2D animation and 3D CGI. I just hope it comes off better than say Transformers: Cybertron (blech).
