Saw this last night.

If you enjoy classic drugged out Nicolas Cage douchebaggery, you'll like this.

Really, the only film that Nicholas Cage ever starred in that showed any hint of promise as an actor was Leaving Las Vegas. Even Raising Arizona sucked pretty hardcore. And what's the deal with whatsername always in movies with her? She was terrible as Roxanne in Ghost Rider, and Sand Serif in the Spirit? Not that that movie wasn't a total fucking act of hideousness across the board, but at least Scarlett Johanssen looked good being campy. Eva Mendes, that's her fucking name.

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

The film's name is long because there was 1992 movie simply called Bad Lieutenant and the director of that movie threw a very public hissyfit and said: ""As far as remakes go, … I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they're all in the same streetcar, and it blows up."

This was before filming even began. In order to help assert that the movie was not intended as a remake, the subtitle was added.

And the movie is fantastic. It has an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I'm aware of the first one, but I don't understand why it's even called Bad Lieutenant when it has nothing to do with the previous movie. It seems like that would confuse fans of the first one and end up letting them down. Couldn't the title have stood on it's own? I'm just being picky, and I love Werner Herzog so I will definitely be checking it out.

The only other Cage movie I liked was Bringing Out the Dead, but I just read about this one and it sounds like it will be awesome.

Bringing out the Dead is seriously one of the only Scorcese movies I like.

I just don't get off on constant Rolling Stone soundtracks and people snorting coke. Well, "The Departed" was pretty good.

It's called that because his rank is Lieutenant and he's bad. It's self explanatory.

Well fucking duh. I'm just saying that it's like calling the movie "Bad Santa" by the name of "The Santa Claus 4" just because it has Santa Claus in it.

It's OK. I don't beat my meat over it like most Scorcese fans though.

I'd just like to name some Nicholas Cage gems you all seem to be overlooking; two little films called The Rock and Con Air...

There is one other connection to the 1992 film, it has one of the same writers, Victor Argo. So I guess you can call this a semi-sequel.

They should just call in Incompetent Lieutenant to avoid confusion.

He's not incompetent at all though. I'm not sure he's a bad lieutenant so much as he is a bad person.
