Did a search and didn't find anything on this.
I found a website a year or so ago about gaming lies.
The sort of things your friends told you about a game which could get you to a super secret area or unlock something you can't actually unlock and of course they used to be something which would take a long time to do and then when you do it they obviously don't work.

Some of them are pretty hilarious: FFVII ones

# You can get Tomb Raider starlet Lara Croft in Final Fantasy VII. Breed two gold chocobos and improve them to S Class. Then beat Joe twelve times and he is replaced by a new rider. Beat the rider three times, and you receive an item with no name. With Tifa in your party, leave the Gold Saucer and Tifa will talk about the mysterious item. Show her the item, and the screen will go blank. When vision returns, Tifa will transform into Lara Croft, and her gun can kill any monster with the first shot.

* The Super Sweeper can repair the Tiny Bronco. Enter Junon with Cid in your party, and talk to the inhabitants three times. Speak to the old man adjacent the beach a few times, and Cid will ride it around.
* When in the battle arena, fight until you have 600hp left exactly and are in toad form, then use a W - item mega-elixir and the Rock weapon will appear. Use another W item elixir and the man from outside the arena will jump in and remove 50% of its HP with a kick.
* Sephiroth's Super Nova was originally supposed to cause an instant party wipe, with its animation being its own unique ending.
* You can start the game at level 99 by killing yourself 100 times. |
some of those, like watchign the play or sepiroth's move supposed ot be instakill seem pretty nifty.

Super Smash Bros Lies...
After beating the game on very hard with one life without restarting, you can unlock playable Metal Mario.
Getting Goldeen into any body of water makes it attack.
So much of my wasted child hood right there...

This one time this guy named Valve said we'd get updates for Team Fortress 2 on the 360 by the end of 2008. Then he said we'd get an update by the end of 2009.

Super Mario RPG; Cow Hat
After getting thrown out of Bowser's Keep you'll be sent back to Mario's Pad where Toad is waiting for you.
After Toad leaves the house, jump on your bed EXACTLY 100 times and go outside to see Toad on top of the Pad.
Climb the Pad to talk to him and he'll give you a rare item. Then proceed to play through the game same until you get to Marrymore.
The first thing you'll notice in Marrymore is that the music is much louder. Proceed to beat the cake and after you do, Torte will trade you the rare item for the Cow Hat, which is 4X attack and defense.
I tried this fricken thing at least 3 times but to no avail. The only reason I kept trying was because I read it off a website that seemed to be right on everything else. Stupid 12 year old me.

My cousin once told me about unlocking Simon Belmont in TMNT 2. Of course a few months later I learned it was EGM's April Fool's joke for the year. I kinda hoped Konami would've put him in Manhattan Project but, they didn't. Oh well, I'll always have my mock-up of what could have been.

Full perfect run with Ryu and 10 full health draws with M. Bison. I'd be pissed if I was actually able to accomplish it and nothing were to happen.

EGM's April Fool's joke for Goldeneye. They said if you jumped through all these hoops you could play multiplayer as any James Bond, Connery, Moore, Dalton and so on.

That is pretty cool. I remember in the article in the magazine Connery was in a white tuxedo. They used screenshots from an early version or something in that article. I got the portraits to work using a Gameshark though but didn't get them into the game like in that video.

Yeah, they only had the rights to Goldeneye, and the Bond license only to a certain degree. They got away with Jaws, Baron, Oddjob, and the Golden Gun, but they couldn't get the Actor rights for the prior Bonds.
I thought it was EGM, but I can find any record of it. But I remembers years ago some magizine had an article about a game coming out for Playstation were the main character was nude throughout the whole game, that turned out to be a hoax. I just wish I could find the article now.

That was PSM. They did a prank called Valkyrie Wilde (I'm pretty sure) but it was this red head Lara Croft wannabe. They put her in Tomorrow Never Dies, Tomb Raider the Last Revelation and Syphon Filter screen shots. It was funny because while it was fake, parents got pissed off and PSM got a bunch of letters saying they were going to cancel subscriptions and Sony got wind of it and had to make a press release saying there was no such game.
