Dear God in Heaven. Reminds me of several horror stories I've read. (the most uncomfortable of them being Stephen King's "Autopsy Room 3" in which a guy is poisoned and paralyzed but still aware. Except everyone thinks he's dead and they decide they need to do an autopsy on him. *shudder*. Doesn't end as badly as you might think, but still pretty nasty to think about.)
I'm glad the guy is better now, such as it is. The amazing thing is if you had asked me, I would have assumed that something like that would eventually drive a person literally insane. I guess not.

This reminds me of the Terri Schiavo stuff from a few years ago
I made a vow to my family, if I am ever in that situation and I'm unresponsive, then end my suffering.
I don't think I could do it, I would go hysteric. I'm glad this guy has come to peace with it, but I don't see how anyone could put up with it, even if there was nothing they could do.

Man, this guy missed so much, including the entire 90's. Hopefully they left a TV on for him sometimes.

The fucked up thing is, even if I told my parents, they "love" me enough to keep me on fucking life support and make me a prisoner of my own body. I bet the first words he spelled weren't too kind to his mother.

Wonder what he thought about, you'd think someone would come to some interesting revelations when they have absolutely nothing to do but lay there and think.

I remember watching the Terry Schiavo post-autopsy interview, and the doctors who dissected her brain basically said that she really was brain-dead. The parts of her brain that would control her vision were completely destroyed, meaning she was blind. The only things she had were reflexes and such, which her family misinterpreted as conscious responses (I'm sure any grieving family would want to believe that). So while this case is amazing, it's also highly unusual. I'd bet that when doctors diagnose someone as a vegetable, they're right 99.9% of the time.

Yeah, I heard about that. And I tried to argue the fact with my pro-life family, but they didn't understand.
South Park did a FANTASTIC job on the subject.
My folks brought up the point that we'd be playing God if we pulled the plug, but aren't we already playing God by keeping her alive? I know the concept of death is tough on a lot of people, but if they have absolutely no way to do anything on their own and can't make the choice for themselves, then shouldn't we do the humane thing and allow them the passage into peace?

IDK, I would imagine the choice is harder when it is a reality.
This is a tough fucking draw for this dude though, he was like that for almost the same amount of time that most of us have been alive.
What the hell could he think about? The same shit he knew from when he was 23? He had zero new experiences to add, no new TV, Movies, Music, he couldn't have even killed himself if he had wanted to. Poor guy.

With that much time to think, he probably thought about sex A LOT and couldn't do anything about it.

Starring David Schwimmer as the coma guy, Alan Thicke as the father and Kathy Bates as the mother. Also starring Henry Rollins as the seasoned veteran doctor and Axl Rose as the new surgeon who likes to shake things up a bit!!

I'd prefer Nikki Sixx over Axl, being that he's actually been comatose before.

But who would want to see anything with Nikki Sixx? He would just brag about OD'ing on heroin all the time and playing in a mediocre hair band.

I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with you on the mediocre part of that statement, but my god, did you hit the nail right on the head about him bragging about that time he OD. Almost every interview I ever see with that guy he starts bringing that up.

I'll give you the band part, but OD'ing on heroine and coming back from the dead is more interesting than dropping off the face of the earth and reappearing to produce a mediocre album.
But I concur that Henry Rollins would make a good grizzled-doctor type.

Also a cameo by Adam Sandler as the guy who teaches coma guy how to use the computer by tapping his finger on it.
"Just tap it in, just tap it in, give it a little tappy, tap tap taparoo."
