So I just found out they released the new God of War Collection which includes the first two GoW games previously only available for the PS2. Going to be the next game I buy for sure. It has the PS network logo on the corner of the cover so I assume there will be some kind of new online multiplayer feature.
I hope they do this will all the great PS2 games, since my PS3 is not backwards compatible, and I've heard they don't plan on making anymore that are.

My best friend LOVES these games, so I'm sure he'll probably pick them up.
I've never really gotten into them, Kratos isn't really likable to play as, nor do I like the set up to playing. I don't know the correct term for it, but whenever you're shown the button to press on the screen and you're forced to play Simon Says with the game...there's no real stradegy there, it's a basis of how you react.
I mean, I like Greek and Roman mythology, but just the overall feel doesn't make it remarkable...if they could do away with the button matching technique, I would be fine with it.

Beat'em up's used to be one of my favorite genres back in the 8 and 16-bit era, but I haven't embraced them with the same enthusiasm since. Games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage had strategy and technique to them, but since the jump to 3D, these games have become mostly a button-mashing affair. I really wanted to get into Brutal Legend because I love the subject matter, but I played the demo and just didn't find the gameplay to be that appealing.

Is this even considered a Beat Em Up? Because from what I remember when I played the first game, you select an enemy, then press the button you see on the screen...rinse repeat.

Oh really? Never played them, so I'm not sure. But in using the term "Beat'em Up" I'm referring to games like Brutal Legend, Ninja Gaiden Black, Castlevania LOI, etc. Basically anything where you just get surrounded by enemies, point the thumbstick toward them and start hammering the buttons.

i brought up God of War like six times in 6 different threads.
at any rate, the PSN logo is so you can download the GOW3 demo sometime in the future. you get a special code once you buy the collection.

nah, the only upgrade was to the graphics. same gameplay, same game, same sound. just went HD instead of SD. which is not a bad thing, since these games are awesome.

This statement isn't even remotely accurate. You don't HAVE to do anything like that, except for boss fights its all at your discretion to use them or not and they are used for multipliers when doing a longer combo. I'm assuming you didn't like or play Resident Evil 4 for the same reason then?
The games are awesome the graphics are unchanged, it's just in a pretty HD and the frame rate is at a full 60 fps so the gameplay is more smooth. Plus both games are on one disc and there are trophies to collect.

Resident Evil was ok, but yes...that was a problem I had with it.

First off, the GoW games are not too bad from a 3D beat em up perspective, not great due to a weirdly balanced magic system and a long weapon that encourages a sort of poke heavy midrange game followed by QTE, which should be retired. Story wise its stupidly macho and ill put together, and unlike God Hand it takes itself real serious like a middle school kid declaring a rap song speaks to his life and experience. Not a bad game but not the be all end all of videogames.
Second, I got the games, and the god damn Gamestop people keep pushing the collection on my like I'm a fucking retard.

GODHAND... that game's awesome.
As for God of War... I could never get past the first one. I didn't like it, I mean. I'm all for senseless ultraviolence, but it felt... I don't know. Vapid. Devoid of spirit. Anyways, I respect the franchise. Greek Mythology rules <3

Yeah, that was my problem too...Kratos was just....meh...there's nothing to really make me like him. He's like Vin Diesel, he's just there and acts like a tough ass, but you don't care either way.

Let's hope so!
Seriously though, I loved GoW1 and I thought it was a super-fun game. I don't need to have a relationship with my character in order to have a good time playing and prefer somewhat simplistic plotlines as opposed to really complex RPG style ones that require a notepad full of notes to follow. So I didn't mind that Kratos was a bit vapid or the story simple.
Games should be judged on whether or not they are fun, and GoW was fun.

I agree wholeheartedly, Pandajuice!
I was just voicing my experience with the game. In the same post I praised GODHAND, which has a way shallower story than God of War, nonsensical drivel at its best... and yet I found it more enjoyable. But as I said, I respect the franchise, I think they're good games even if I don't like them very much <3

God Hand is a great game, but i have only played maybe 1/4 of it. but i have no idea wtf the story is about.
GoW 1 had a decent story. simple plot line, but it wasnt hard to follow, and kratos is as generic as most action heroes. i prefer kratos over dante from DMC. he just reminds of an annoying douchebag.

The gameplay in GOW is just so visceral. It's just satisfying and amazingly fluid. The God Mode difficulties also add a lot of strategy and patience to the "mash square until all enemies are dead" formula that can be used to beat the game on all the other difficulties.
Not buying the collection because I already have both 1 and 2 and I find the addition of trophies and HD rendering not worth 40 bucks for something I already own. The fact that Sony is allowing people to experience it who may not have the first time around is nice. (also, easy money for them, they're probably just gonna be raking it in on this one)
