I got to thinking about this while re-reading "Winter Soldier" while simultaneously watching "Band of Brothers" last night. Who would you cast in the upcoming (2011 anyway) Captain America movie?
For Cap, if you ask me, there is only one real choice, and that is:
He's got the perfect All-American blond hair/blue eyes, and he's an absolutely fantastic actor. His voice is a little...different from how I hear Cap in my head, but I think that's pretty much to be expected in any movie adaptation; its never going to be exactly as you imagine it. I know he could pull this off well. Also, he may not have been injected with super-soldier serum, but he does look like Cap pretty much all over--he's buff, and no slouch physically which (in addition to being rather nice for the ladies) is absolutely paramount with a character like Cap.
I don't know about Red Skull or Buckey. Paul Bettany could do a good Red Skull I think, assuming he can do the accent. Jeremy Irons would be fucking perfect--with the makeup age wouldn't matter, the only issue is how thin he is. He definitely does not have the Nazi super-soldier physique. If they can find a way around that though, it would be insanely good.
Thoughts?

That guy looks more like an Aquaman to me but then again, I have no idea what C.A. looks like out of costume.

Well, I heard the story was going to be based on the Ultimate series, and this what he looks like in that:

He's got the look, that's for sure. But he's a bit...boyish, at least imo. I always thought of Cap as a mature guy, and Van Dien looks more like someone who'd be playing a Robin or Nightwing.

If they could bulk up Aaron Eckhart, make him a little blonder, I could see that. The man's got gravitas, and he did a great job as Two-Face. I'm still a little miffed that Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool again, because he sucked it up with the first one, but maybe he can redeem himself as Green Lantern.

^ bah, yeah. English major, great at writing...horrible at spelling (minor case of dyslexia). Always been a weakness of mine, along with math heh heh.
Brad Pitt actually wouldn't make a bad Cap. He's got the look, and he's a great actor, but a) I think he's too high profile to be effective and b) too pretty boy. Not that Cap can't be good looking (he should be, actually), but I dunno. Somehow I just don't see Brad Pitt leading a charge against Nazi machine gun nests.

lol I was just teasing you.
At any rate, Pitt def has the look but not the height. Now if only NBA players knew how to act.

I wonder if Jack Swagger can act?
(Though, he would need to get rid of the lisp.)

In all seriousness, I would like to nominate Simon Baker. That is, provided he can do a decent American accent.

The guy in the original post looks too old. Steve Rogers was 18 when he became Captain America, which wasn't until after America had already entered WWII. That means he was no older than 22 when he was frozen in ice and subsequently de-thawed. Someone who looks 30+ with a visibly receding hairline won't cut it.

I just hope they don't use Ultimate Red Skull, since these movies are mostly based on the ultimate universe. I like what they did with Ultimate Red Skull and all, but I don't think it would translate well for Cap's first movie.
Also, how much of this is going to be WWII and how much is present day, if we know? I would imagine most of it would be his and Bucky's origins, with him winding up frozen at the end, and possibly thawed out (Perhaps only found in the ice) at the very end.

I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped his WWII origins entirely and just made him a modern super soldier fighting a Neo Nazi group.
