Ok, so I was a massive tool, and wasted a good 3 and a half years on FFXI. The game looks and sounds like it's going to be pretty cool, if not interesting in some of the ideas they are going to implement that are new to MMO's. So the game has me intrigued now... despite the fact that i quit the last one because endgame stuff was too time consuming, and being that there is no ending mmo's are all about e-peen and showing off your "uber" gear. It's so tempting, so I was wondering if anyone on here played the last one or was gonna try this one out. If so, I will probably be going on the Hades server if they have one, as that was the server i was on in XI.

EDIT: Also Uematsu is signed on to do the music. YAY!

I really wished Square would stop fucking up the numbering series of their Single Player RPGs with MMOs mixed in.

FF11 Should have been "Final Fantasy Online", and 12 should have been 11.

And, this should be "Final Fantasy Online 2"

Oh well, it's their system and they view XI and XIV as milestones in the main line, even if they're MMOs. I'm a WoW guy myself, but I might try XIV, though The Old Republic seems to be where it's gonna be at.

I do agree with the numbering being retarded. Especially since there are tactics, crystal chronicals etc etc that aren't numbered...

Yay for Uematsu music! He'll be my all-time favorite JRPG music composer.

As for FFXI, I've tried it once or twice. I have this weird thing where I read the game manuals and immediately feel the burning desire to play it. After the long re-install process and patching up and updating and whatever, I'm again in Vana'diel and... it takes me no more than three days to remember why I quit: the game's SLOW. Slow character progress, I mean. But it will always be a favorite of mine. Taru-Tarus are just too damn cute. And making a Dark Knight one with a lil' scythe... it rocks.

Here's to hoping FFXIV improves upon the formula =)

They are, from what i understand, going to make it where you are less reliant on groups for gaining experience, or i guess i should say you have the option to solo or group. in xi after level 10, it was all group xp parties unless you were a beastmaster. That should speed the pace up a bit considering you wont have to wait for long periods of time looking for group... i think i read somewhere that gaining skills or whatever their using in the place of xp will also be incorporated into missions, which is nice considering you almost always got very little xp on the missions in XI.

Also, I considered restarting XI, but i think it would be too hard now. I'm almost certain my character has been deleted as i haven't played in like 3 years. starting from the ground up would be difficult considering all the 75 jobs and achievements i had gotten.

They once kept my characters for 2 years intact... it was hell to recover them, but I finally managed to do so and there they were, as underdeveloped as I had left them.

So don't count them out just yet <3

I agree with Knyte, Josh, and Burt on the numbering.

I will probably never play them explicitly due to the numbering.

Yeah it just bothers the hell out of me. I can probably afford to play a Final Fantasy MMORPG but I just don't care.

That explains my thoughts on MMO's in general...
