Microsoft is hip to all the modified consoles and 600,000 machines were banned from using XBox Live this week. Has anyone been effected by this?

Here is the full story.

Don't they know this is futile?

Every time they fix one mod...another pops up a few weeks later

This is hilarious, they totally bitch slapped everyone who bought Modern Warfare 2.

I don't think they "fixed" a mod, they exiled people from xbox live which I am not sure if you can mod around. Either way, they aren't going to just sit back and watch people take advantage of their machines, obviously they will shut down anything they can and fight the new one when it pops up.

I think most of these video game companies still have that 1980's fear mentality, that they'll lose interest if people are allowed to pirate their product.

It's not really stealing...it's not like it'll be a contributing factor in sales drop

How can someone playing a free copy of a game instead of buying it not drop sales???

Is that the case? I didn't read that in the article...sorry...I just assumed the modding dealt with fan-made shit, and not blatant pegging a game for others

I didn't read the whole article, but I am under the impression a big part of modding a console in general is to play bootleg copies of real games, among other things.

While it CAN, I always figured the big selling point of modding something was to play a modded version of the game...

I had a friend who modded his old XBox (not the 360) to play NES games that were all on a disk. I wish I knew how he did it.

I guarantee the number one reason people mod xbox's is to play burned copies of games.

Yeah, I wanna do that too but to do it on a 360 you have to stream your emulator and roms to the 360 using Media Center and that is gay. I'll just go buy a Nintendo.

Everyone who got banned deserved it. The number one rue of modding a 360 is DO NOT GO ONLINE WITH IT!!!

Since the beginning, it has been known that if you mod your system, Microsoft can tell if you sign in to Live with it.

If you want to mod your system, AND still want to play online, then you have to buy two 360s.

Yea if I was going to do it I would do it on the original XBox, because of the recent events with the 360 it would be too risky.

Just checked Craigslist and there was a massive amount of bricked modded XBoxs for sale, lol! This is too funny, glad I bought a PS3! They got what they deserved, they were only modding to play burned games,

You guys completely miss the point about piracy. Pull your heads out of your urethras and check this shit out.

1) Developers develop games for a living.
2) Ergo, their products = money = their ability to live
3) Ergo, if everyone pirates the game, no one buys it and the developers can't live.
4) Ergo, they need to push out another game so stores will eat it up and they can survive for another month.
5) Thus, the industry thrives and everyone is happy.

Also, the stores first buy a quantity of a given game and that's the money the developers get. So yeah, instead of Bethesda receiving their cut from your copy of Fallout 3, your money goes towards buying a batch of some other game.

Like Barbie Horse Adventures. Yeah. How does it feel now, eh?

You should totally check out the IRC channel.

there's this crazy thing called a no movement report. what the no movement report does is simple. It reports on what items in the stores inventory aren't making sales, so that the store's buyer knows not to buy that item any more. Par example, if my no movement report says that DVDs aren't selling, I will buy less of each new release, as an attempt to waste less money. this will keep happening until eventually my sales strategy will change to not carrying DVDs at all.

I have a modded PS2... well, technically. There is no mod chip in it, I use swap discs instead but I guess it still counts as modded because I had to screw around with the disc tray to enable bypassing the lockout. I do NOT play any pirated games on this thing or on my modded NES for that matter, I use my modded consoles solely for import gaming (let's face it, being a European gamer kinda sucks because, well, PAL conversions are often pretty bad and many games don't even come out).

Yes, I know I am in the minority.
