Recently discovered that the Android Market has a SNES, and NES emulators. I have a HTC Eris and it runs FFIV, V, and VI flawlessly. It also has a Genisis, GBC, and GBA emulators. Totally bad ass. Much rather be playing my favorite SNES games than Cellphone Snake.

This should be in the NWO or something. That's where emulation related topics belong.

I am pretty sure that if they aren't being sold, emulators are legal since they don't violate copyright laws. As long as the code isn't being copied from the core system and violating a patent there shouldn't be any issue. Roms on the other hand are protected by copyright law. Also, I am almost certain that the patents for NES and SNES have run out. That is why you see third party hardware solutions now.

As for the original post, I now want an Android based phone. I've kinda wanted one for a while, but now I really do.

I realize the legalities of emulators, I'm just saying that any emulation related topics posted here have generally been merged with the handheld emulation topic in the NWO or moved there.

I hear nothing but good things about the Incredible despite it not having a physical keyboard. So how are emulators supposed to work on it?

I don't personally see the appeal of trying to play NES or SNES games on a screen that's only a couple of inches wide. But I guess a lot of people do. To be fair, I've never been into handheld systems for the same reason.

It uses an on screen d-pad and buttons like the iphone emulators. Anyway this isn't exactly new or specific to Android. Pretty much any smartphone released in the last 4 years has been able to run NES/SNES/GEN emulators.

Unfortunately there's never been a good one for blackberry that I've seen. I remember trying out a NES emulator for my old curve, but the hardware was underpowered and the games ran too slow to be playable. The newer BB's should be powerful enough, but seeing as how it's perceived as mainly a business use phone, the incentive/demand probably isn't there. Theoretically it should be able to run one in java, but I'm not familiar with any and besides the controls wouldn't really be ideal since there is no d-pad.

If you have an Android Phone download Pocket Empires. Join Server 1, and contact me D.McCallister, I'll help you jump up in the ranks and you can join the Alliance I'm in. The game is addicting so say goodbye to not looking at your phone all the time.

Have you ever tried to cold start a BlackBerry? In the time it takes one to boot, you can download every NES ROM ever dumped.

I have a Samsung Moment, so I just use the keyboard to play mine. It's not as good as emulating on my PSP, mind you, but I don't carry my PSP around much anymore anyway.
