How do you know that a medium has started to mature? When there are museums dedicated to it. Such is the case in New York.
Eurogamer is reporting that the National Center for the History of Electronic Games has opened in Rochester, New York, and is thus far "the only museum anywhere devoted solely to the study and interpretation of play." The collection is housed in the Strong Museum of Play, and boasts over 15,000 items. Among them are games and hardware, but also advertising, publications, toys, book and other items
And just in case you were wondering, it sounds like it's a hands-on museum -- attendees will be able to play many of the items on display. Say it with us now, kids: Best museum ever. |

Good luck guys and don't get killed if you go to Rochester. I was born/raised there. The Stong Museum has the worlds largets doll collection, so naturally I haven't been there since my parents brought me when I was 5. I'll have to make a trip next time I'm up and report back.
