So I saw a commercial last night for this band who's roster includes the following:

Joe Satriani on Guitar
Michael Anthony on Bass Guitar
Sammy Hagar on Vocals
And I can't remember who plays drums.

Anyways, its the first I have heard of it, and I'll probably be slammed with 20 people saying "Old news is Old" but whatever. What do you think of this?

On one hand, Joe Satriani is one of my favorites. It's not just his skill but I think he has a knack for music that can actually make you FEEL something. Michael Anthony is a competent bassist, but by no means the best. His stage presence is probably what he'll be bringing here (like chugging Jack Daniels onstage, as he has every time I saw Van Halen live). Sammy Hagar is hit or miss for me really. Some of my favorite Van Halen songs are sung by the man, although his solo stuff was VERY weak.

I just have a feeling this is going to evolve into one of those God-Awful super-group situations that will be way worse musically than I am hoping for. I want it to be good, but I have too many doubts.

Discuss.

Have you heard the song they have on the radio? It's alright I guess. I just wish Satch would stick to the G3 tour though. I don't think he got famous doing what Chickenfoot is doing, they're still not that bad though. Surprisingly they don't sound like a bunch of old guys playing old music but I still prefer Satriani solo.

Alrighty, here goes...

Old news is definitely old, but I jump back and forth among music websites religiously. Satch's big thing with this is that he's always wanted to be in a band, which is why he's doing this. It seems like he's toned back the histrionics (which, considering certain other guitarist his singer has worked with, he should know that isn't necessary), but the band is a solid, funky, chugging machine. That is all.

I thought they were pretty good on Conan.

Also Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is their drummer, one of the funkiest motherfuckers around.

Wow, I forgot I even made this thread But yeah, the album really is great. The single got old after a while but it's still catchy as hell and I'm a huge Joe Satriani fan, so I am very pleased with the whole album.

Not necessarily. in fact, I will argue that Eddie was able to tone down the histronics enough to write the songs.

I've had this album for a while. I like it quite a bit. But I still like the members' other stuff better for the most part.
