I've no mods for consoles yet, but I thought I'd bring up the subject. Post your mods for retro or other consoles.
If I ever modded my consoles, I'd put a blue LED in my Saturn, put a yellow cyber mesh on it, and chip it. As far as N64 goes, I'd get Doctor V64 and make the console pitch black with a yellow cyber mesh and the controller sockets a matching yellow. I'd chip my XBox and get a dashboard for it. When I get my DSi, I might just try to find a shell for it.

I have a R4 for my DS Lite.
I have a soft-modded Xbox.
I have a pile of PS1s (model 7501) that I can use Game Enhancers with.
I modded a PS1 by cutting out half the disc lid and putting a plexiglass window. I also painted it black.
I have two modded PS2s. One fat - One Slim. The fat one just has the disc drive flaceplate removed so I can use a drive opening tool. The slim, I put a flip-lid on.
I am still debating on wheter or not to soft mod my 360. I might wait until I can get a 2nd one, so that way I can one for Xbox Live and one that will stay off the network and just be a game player.

I have a soft-modded Wii, a PSP with custom firmware, and I don't really know if this counts or not but I have a tool where you take off your PS2 fat's drive door and you swap it with a disc and it allows you to play imports.

They have de-bricking software for that kind of stuff, I believe.

This mod is a bit pointless, but my brother and I are trying to put a GBA inside a GBC case. It'll still be a GBA, but in a case that screams of nostalgia (My brother and I LOVED Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons when we were younger). We just need a dremel tool to cut up the GBC so the GBA parts can fit.

Depending on how that goes, I may put up pics of it

I have a DSTT for my DS Lite, I've soft-modded my Wii for homebrew and game "backups", and I have a PSP (2000) with custom firmware on it for emulation. The PSP makes a damn fine pocket-sized emulation box. (I'd suggest going with the 2000 model, otherwise known as the slim, if you're going to be purchasing one for modding. I know modding the 3000 is still a bit shaky, and the Go doesn't even have a removable battery, which is really the only reliable method to crack the system).

Wait, how did you mod the 2000? Isn't it un-modable? I wanted a PSP so badly, but when I saw how slow PSX emulation was, I wasn't so psyched. However, it's got MUGEN, and awesome MAME emulation, so I'm thinking about it

What, the Slim? Hell no, man. The 2000 is the best one to get for modding, as it has the better screen and more ram. All you have to do is use a pandora battery, just like with the 1000. Now the 3000, that's a bitch to crack, and it won't fully accept any cracking just yet. It and the Go are the "unmoddable" ones.

Here's a decent site with tutorials and program links and such, if you're interested in modding the slim.

Oh, and I did have to replace the analog stick on my slim, so I guess it's been hardware-modded now.

I just got a DSi and I'm gonna flashcard it to run Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, and maybe even Heretic and Hexen. Those games were fucking awesome.

What EXACTLY is a Pandora Battery, anyway? Nobody's really explained that one

It's a battery whose serial number has been turned to all zeros. I have no idea how the mechanics of the hack work, I just know that having a battery with no proper serial sets the PSP to some kind of recovery mode. You can then install the normal firmware, or a custom firmware.

If the Pandora battery trick works on a DS, I'd be happy.

It doesn't, but there's no need to. They make flashcards for that, and you can get a decent one for about five bucks. I recommend the DSTT.

So wait, how do you get the serial number changed?

And five dollar flashcards, you say? Where at? I can use a few of those Very Happy

SD cards are more conventional, because I highly doubt my parents trust any online store that's not eBay or craigslist. Imma experiment with anything I can find to see if I can exploit DSi console reset (on DS Lite, you could take the battery out to reset the console).
EDIT: the DSi reset didn't work. I'll look for some other exploit (maybe a photo with code attatched to it or something).

I know of a few tutorials on how to create a pandora battery, but I just bought mine for $6 from DealExtreme. They even have ones with a switch, so it can be either a pandora or a regular battery.

Good luck, man. I'm pretty sure you could grab a flashcard from an ebay seller, which would be the proven route to go. But hell, if you can crack the DSi without one, go for it.

Have you had any trouble with Dealextreme? I wanted to go there for an R4 but I didn't trust them because they only accepted PayPal.

...there is no other way to "hack" the DS right now other than getting a DSi-compatible flashcard (such as the M3i Zero, Supercard DS1i, AK2i, EZ-Flash Vi, etc.) R4 is loooong past dead (and the original team disbanded), don't buy it anymore.

Go to ConsoleSource.com if you don't trust DealExtreme (even though that place is REALLY NOT FAKE.)

I have an M3 Real for my DS and a flip-top mod on one of my PS2 systems.
