My mom went to Las Vegas with internet friends. She met them for the first time at the Las Vegas airport. She's done basically everything every parent tells their kids not to do.

This is actually pretty funny, but holds some truth in it. I wouldn't trust someone on some video game forum/chat room claiming they're a 16-year-old Japanese schoolgirl. MSN is a different story. I've known one of my friends to pretend to be a girl on MSN and try to get people's passwords, though he'd add me on his alt and tell me if it's him. I'm keeping all names secret because I DON'T NEED MY FUCKING FRIEND IN TROUBLE.

I've met most of my true friends over the internet. Everyone around me was always just pretending to be my friend always using me for my money. It still pisses me off till this day that I went through 4 years of high school thinking everyone was my friend when actually they just used me for stuff.

The internet is a completely fine for meeting people, as long as you meet them in the right places. Going to a general chat room is just asking for pedophiles, people pretending to be someone else, etc.
Now if you meet someone through a special interest site, and they are a regular contributer, then that is a whole different story. They are established on the site, and in a way you get to know them, before ever meeting them.
Other than Asmodeous, I have never met another Sydlexian face to face, but I have a general idea of everyone's personalities based on the years I have been here and the posts you all make.
