"Define irony. A bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash." - Garland Greene

This is NOT AT ALL a terrible fucking idea: http://www.boston.com/travel/articles/2009/10/04/Titanicmemorialcruisetosailon100thanniversary/

To be perfectly honest, a lot has changed in 100 years.

The chances of a glancing iceberg strike sinking a modern day ship is low, the chances of actually hitting that iceberg is even lower, and the chances that there won't be enough lifeboats on the ship are zero.

In fact, that's probably the best thing that came out of the Titanic disaster. "Aww, fuck it, it won't sink" is no longer an acceptable disaster prevention strategy.

Still, if I were a terrorist, I'd be so gunning for that ship.

Yeah, eventually we'll end up with a whole damn ship graveyard hit by the SAME GODDAMN ICEBERG.

Oh, and in the unlikely event that it does crash...

I told you so!

I wonder what it's like for a person with multiple personalities when they need to make a decision. Do they VOTE?

Wow... that's... until you see a link and read it for yourself it's like a joke.

Well....hmmm... have we been able to solve that iceberg problem after 100 years? No? Well, good luck then.

I was under the impression they didn't glance it, but rather when they saw it in the way and saw they didn't have time to dodge it rammed it assuming they'd break through it? Was this some sort of revisionist history I heard?

It would be funny if some sort of deranged titanic survivor or something was waiting their whole life for an opportunity to sabotage this, and now they'll get a chance.

Well, I wasn't there. But every version I hear (and I did a few reports on it) is that the Titanic had segmented hulls, and X of them could breach and fill with water, and the ship could stay afloat.

The lookout saw the iceberg way too late (and in all fairness, there's no way they could have expected one to be there), they tried to avoid it, they scraped against it, and the iceberg scraped a gash in the side of the ship, flooding X+! compartments.

The ironic part is that if they never saw the iceberg, or did try to plow through it, the ship probably would have stayed afloat. Crippled, adrift, stuck in a chunk of ice, and likely a few broken necks from the sudden stop. But it would have stayed up.

You know if the lookout wasn't to busy staring and Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet, this whole thing could've been avoided.

Maybe someone else will find this funny, but for me it's a swing and a miss.

Lol an anniversary cruise...I thought anniversary's were to remember good things that happened? It won't sink in all likeliehood(we've never said that before!) but it just sounds like a bad idea. The irony is enjoyable though.

I live in Belfast the city where it was built.

Aim all abuse at me.

It was saying about Harland and Wolff, the cranes are still here in Belfast they are considered a piece of the Citys Hertiage despite being bright yellow and a total eyesore. I don't think they are even used now especially since H&W cut back on a lot of its workers in the mid 90s.

If they did survive, they'd be way too young then, or too old now to remember.
