I am actually not afraid of heights, I am terrified of edges. So, I can climb a mountain with a rope and gear, but I can't step to the edge of a cliff.
This video makes me scared just watching it.

I am. I can get the stress of feeling heights just by thinking of them.
It's irrational, I know, because we're all really scared of the sudden stop at the end.
Maybe it's just looking down and wondering what would happen if you DID fall.

Yea, I think being afraid of heights is a natural phobia that takes some work to get over. I'm like the others that just by watching that video invokes some very carnal flight response feelings from my heart.
By the way, that's retardedly insane to be hanging around that close to the edge while holding/looking through a camera. Your perspective can easily be thrown off by looking through the viewfinder, or looking at a 2 inch lcd screen and man, one wrong step, and that's it. Game over.

I hate heights, and I hate vertigo even more; I don't even like being in tall buildings because of the feeling I get when I know I'm far away from the ground level.

God yes. My biggest (irrational) fear in the whole world is roller coasters. I get sick just looking at them.
The vid doesn't really bother me though. I actually enjoy heights and being on mountains like that.

I don't mind being high up. I enjoy climbing things, it's just when I look down and can see a clear and present danger that I get worried. Flying doesn't bother me at all except for takeoff and certain amounts of turbulence, but for some reason in a plane being able to see the ground actually helps me; weird.
And Soldierhawk, I definitely agree on rollercoasters being an irrational fear, but it's still one of my biggest fears. I mean, sure in physics class we would routinely have problems involving roller coasters so I could actually prove to myself using science that I WON'T die on it, but I still don't wanna go anywhere near it.

Damn right Jeebus. I remember a few years ago some people died during a big wreck on Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland--a ride I usually go on because its not at all intense (parts of it still make me feel shitty, but the scenery is worth it.) Anyway, after that I couldn't handle going on it anymore--I went once, and all I could think of was that the worst possible way to die would be in a dark tunnel, strapped in, being crushed by a roller coaster car *shudder*.
If we ever take a forum-wide trip to Six Flags or something, we can hang out and laugh at all the people who actually go on the things.

Physically standing on that ledge wouldn't bother me too much.
But I'd be paranoid that one of my dickhead friends would sneak up behind me and deliberately try to scare me/fake push me. So that fear might cause me to step back from the ledge.

I'm actually more comfortable in heights, probably from living in Frog-Balls-Nowhere in Pennsylvania for so long. It works out for my parents, because I'm the first person to ask when they need help with the roof/gutters.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

You guys have never been on a pants-shitting roller coaster until you've been on the wooden one at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in Vancouver. This thing was built in 1958 and because there's two cars and they need to secure people quickly, the only safety mechanism is a bar that sits about three inches above your waist. You lift out of your seat every time you shoot down. FUCKING SCARY.
I LOVE heights, but I grew up near a forrest and would climb the trees there all the time.
I refuse to go on wodden rollercoasters though, mostly because they're uncomfortable as heck. Steel rollercoasters where you're secure are good to go, though.

I'm with a few people here, I've never been scared of heights, it's just the ground when you splat, and I think the same way Ice2SeeYou thinks, one of my friends would probably push me when near a ledge and I'd be dead. Wooden rollercoasters never bothered me, and I wouldn't volunteer to go on that one Ross posted, but if I had to, I guess it would be kinda fun.

I don't have a problem with heights, but I wouldn't climb a really tall ladder just because I wouldn't trust the ladder...and falling would suck.
Roller coasters are bad ass, if I'm gonna go early, I guess flying on a roller coaster and having it snap off the tracks into midair and smashing to the ground into a pile of gore and twisted metal would be a good way to go.

For those who weren't phased by the cliff video, perhaps this will freak you out a bit more.

Scariest roller coaster I've ever been on was Space Mountain at Disneyworld. By all accounts it's a very tame roller coaster, the only problem is I'm clearly taller than the average person was when they built it, so I barely fit in the car (And I was sitting in the front of one, which is an even smaller seat). I could see all the metal supports and stuff around us, and if I had lifted my arms to go "Whee!!!!", I'm sure they would have become disconnected from my body after colliding with the track/supports above me.

That's so ironic. Space Mountain (albeit the one at Disneyland) is the ONE roller coaster I genuinely enjoy. Probably a combination of the fact that there are no drops, its not very fast, and I adore the theming. (Yes, its a poor substitute for actually going into space, but its probably the closest thing to my dream I'll ever get.) I'm only 4'10 of course, so we're totally on the opposite side of the height spectrum. Do you think you might genuinely hit your arms though, or could it just be an illusion? I can't imagine they would allow a ride to function that would actually harm someone of normal (albiet tall) height.

It's my understanding from friends I've had that worked there that people do get injured on it from time to time.
Also, there is NO WHERE you can have sex in Disneyworld without getting caught. People will try on the darker rides because they don't realize there are cameras covering every inch of the park, and whenever they catch someone trying to do something on one of the rides, they round up all the staff members they can before the ride ends to all applaud the couple as there little boat or whatever emerges from the ride. (They are then removed from the park)

Bwahahahah yeah! I have a friend who used to work at Disneyland, told me about that. She said Pirates of the Caribbean was a particular favorite.
Also, if they seriously didn't make that ride with plenty of clearance for someone your height, the designers were clearly morons.

Heights freak me out for the simple fact that I can't trust myself not to just snap and jump off laughing maniacly all the way to the ground.
I am not an unstable person but I get the feeling whenever I am at an edge that I can't be trusted.
On a similar vein, anyone ever get a little urge at the back of your head while walking next to a road to just jump into the oncomming traffic?
I would never do it, but there is something there.
