I don't know how many of you like the Final Fantasy series, but they're coming out with a fighting game for PSP, it looks quite amazing. Whether they can pull it off and make it an amazing game is another story. They're doing it as a 20th anniversary project for the series. Whether this hits in America or not, I don't know, but I see no reason for it not to, there hasn't been too many releases in Japan that dind't come out in America concerning Final Fantasy...

I remember playing it while working at FuncoLand, beating it with the fat guy and leaving his ending up (where he eats Noodles over and over again) uunplugging the controller and locking the cabinet. People were weirded out to say the least.

I don't think SE likes the 360. The only reason they put FFXI on the 360 is because they were bleeding players. I'm not sure what that phrase means, but I think it means they were losing lots and lots of players. So. They were losing a lot of their player base, and wanted to do something to give it a boost.

But, uh, back on topic. Don't count on it moving off the PSP. I'm going to guess Sony cut them a paycheck and said "HEY! WE'RE NOT SELLING ENOUGH PSPS! MAKE A GAME FOR IT!"

I could be, and most likely am completely wrong. I don't follow these videogames like you kids these days do.

I thought it was for the PS3. I can't see a PSP to 360 port.

Thoughts on the US voices for any of the characters seen so far (Sephiroth's already got a VA)?

Personally I'd like to see Jason Marsden voice Zidane (Max Goof, Adult Kovu in Lion King II, and Chester McBadbat on the later seasons of Fairly Oddparents). i think he could be chipper enough to pull it off.

No opinion on Kuja, but Tom Kane (the voice of Him on Powerpuff Girls) seems like a possibility.

The Light Warrior needs a generic hero voice. I recommend the second dude who played Goku on Dragonball Z.

do we even have a complete roster yet?

BTW I'm playing ehrgeiz right now. Dasher Inoba is the man. The only guys I like more than he are Cloud Strife and Koji Matsuda.

There's a Kenta Kobashi clone in Ehrgeiz, I don't remember his name, though.

Characters

[edit] Original Characters

* Ken "Godhand" Mishima - Once a mercenary for Red Scorpion, Godhand decided to leave the organization and take with him the knowledge of the ancient ruin. Resigning from the organization meant cutting off one's right hand. As painful as it was, Ken did the deed then betrayed Red Scorpion by selling the information to a large wealthy syndicate group. Together they formed an excavation company to seize control of the ancient ruin in the Middle East. As part of his deal, he was given a new prosthetic right arm, plus was told the theory that the Ehrgeiz stone was the key to the door. He now believes he must become the champion and bear the sword.
* Han Daehan - A Tae Kwon Do fighter and action star with a metal right leg.
* Prince Naseem - A Muay Thai kick boxer
* Yoyo Yoko - A female cop who fights using a yoyo as a weapon.
* Lee Shuwen
* Sasuke
* Dasher Inoba
* "Wolf Maiden" Jo
* Koji Masuda
* Clair Andrews
* Django - Django is a wolf character that plays the role of the sub-final boss. He can be unlocked as a playable character by meeting certain conditions in the game. His first costume is gray fur, however his alternate costume (red fur) has many resemblances to Red XIII. His attack names reference Red XIII, his father Seto and Final Fantasy summons.
* Red Scorpion - Red Scorpion is the final boss, and main antagonist. He is the mastermind behind the tournament in the hope to succeed and obtain the materia. Godhand betrayed Red Scorpion by selling information about him to a very rich syndicate group.

[edit] Final Fantasy VII Characters

* Cloud Strife, a.k.a. The Guardian in story mode.
* Tifa Lockhart, a.k.a. The Summoner in story mode.
* Sephiroth
* Vincent Valentine
* Yuffie Kisaragi

Grrr....

Golbez doesn't belong on the "bad" side of things. Shouldn't Zemus have been the bad guy from FFIV?

Kefka looks like a fool.

Golbez was chosen because he had a bigger rivalry with the main character, and Kefka is based off of the original artwork by Amano.

This looks interesting and Gamefly has mailed me the game, should have it in a couple days.

One thing that pissed me off was that the trailer video I saw over the summer featured Cloud VS Sephiroth. You have a game where you can have any number of FF characters fighting each other in many possible combinations and Square-Enix had to go with the one we've seen a thousand times already.

"Anybody who ever built an empire, or changed the world, sat where you are now. And it’s because they sat there that they were able to do it."

"Fighting in a basement offers a lot of difficulties, number one being, you're fighting in a basement."

i should probably get a PSP now that this game is out. my old one broke a long time ago, and I have a brand new copy of crisis core sitting here that I bought without even owning a system, and it's like cloud and his friends keep whispering to me to drop 200 bones on a new PSP instead of a car stereo.

Holy crap this game's amazing, I've had it for 12 days, played it whenever I had spare time between classes (so all day) I've got 64 hours logged already and still enjoying it fully!
The characters are fairly balanced although there are the trademark spam attacks and naturally Sephiroth is a little overpowered to please the rabid FF7 fans but other then that its easily the best game on the PSP right now.
(THEY GOT KEFKA'S LAUGH... IT SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD TOO!!!)
