91 years ago 30 minutes from now, the final ceasefire of World War 1 went into effect. Here's to all the brave souls who fought for what they believed in. Both Entente and Central.
Also, 91 years ago, Poland regained independence after 123 of being divided between Germany, Russia and Austria. Here's to all the people who died after being persecuted and forcibly germanized / russicized. Here's to Austria, who proved itself to be a safe haven for Poles, even though it also incorporated some of Poland into itself.
I now bestow upon you the title of Most Awesome Person.

Both of my deceased grandfathers were veterans.
My mother's father served in Ethopia during World War II, spent much of the war over there after getting malaria twice and damn near dying.
My father's father was a mechanical engineer who signed up and was originally going to work on gun boats, but instead was chosen to work on the Manhatten Project. After the war, he got a certificate:
It's signed by the Secretary of War, but my dad swears there is a second document somewhere that was signed by Truman.

I would like to thank our members in the service, as well as anyone else who has, does or will serve our countries. Thank you for what you do, it means more to me than I could ever properly express over the internet.

I found this on a military site I go to. Its not branch specific, and honors vets in general. Also, the song is based on a running cadence (set to music here obviously) that I even sang in boot camp!

Huge thanks to all veterans and current soldiers. I wish I could communicate how proud and thankful I am to all those who have fought/are fighting, but anything I could possibly say would fall short of what they deserve. So, simply, thank you.
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.
I saw a veteran donation podium at the grocery store a few days ago and I didn't donate anything because I had insufficient change. I went back today with a big shiny toonie... but the podium was replaced with candy vending machines
RIP you brave motherfuckers \m/\m/.
I don't have a signature. Sorry. Try again later.. probably not though.
