When searching for a Calvin and Hobbes strip for another thread, I came across this comic:
Image
Can we please find and kill the guy that just raped my childhood?

EDIT: There is a part B to the comic:
Image
Now it is not childhood-raping (To me) anymore. Would a mod kindly remove the poll so I don't look like such an ass?

Yeah, I've seen that one before. Never fails to make me very, very sad. Drugs, especially ones foisted on kids to "control" them, are spawns of Satan.

Not to say some kids don't genuinely have problems that can be addressed by meds, but its really out of control now.

I agree. Their is a limit to what medication can do. When I was a kid they used to put me on Ritalin. My grades soared and I was on the honor roll two years straight however I became really introverted and depressed, this was in grade school mind you. Since then I've been off of the pills however I never really recovered from the whole introverted thing. I don't fare that well with actual communication and I think it is safe to say that the pills have had a lasting effect, my parents went as far as saying that I seemed almost misanthropic in my approach to life. Sometimes meds just shouldn't be used to that degree. You can gain a lot however their is so much to lose...

That strip is not insulting the Calvin and Hobbes legacy.

It's merely pointing out the problems of relying on medication alone.

I agree. Its not raping childhood, at least I don't see it that way. Its quite realistic, actually, which is why its so painful.

On the contrary, I like this comic a great deal, and furthermore I think that if the man who wrote the original calvin and hobbs were with us today he would approve wholeheartedly.

In defense of my original statements, it is a VERY, and I mean VERY sensitive issue with me. I practically am Calvin in that comic in real life. Also, the original strip is very meaningful to me, having helped me get through the worst times of my life, so the Calvin on Ritalin comic, to me, is sadness to the point of great despair.

Like any other individual who communicates primarily through their work, an absence of production is identical to death. The net effect would be the same, so I don't bother distinguishing.

I remember seeing this on the forum before, and I thought that it was the last Calvin and Hobbes comic which made me pretty sad. I mean, who the fuck ends a comic strip like that? But then I realized I just read something wrong.

Oh god no. That WOULD be sad. But nope, Waterson didn't even write that comic.

This is the true final strip of the series:

Much nicer and more fitting, don't you think? Smile

Yeah, I Googled it afterward because I thought that was too shitty. I was much happier when I saw the real one.

It might be my dark and twisted sense of humor, but I actually got a laugh or two out of the Robot Chicked thing.

Are we all SERIOUSLY getting upset about a Calvin and Hobbes comic?

SERIOUSLY?

Everyone here that's older than eleven please raise your hand.

Technically speaking, people aren't getting upset about the comic, but rather the over-medicating of American children and the newly arisen perception that classic child hyperactivity or imagination is deviant and something to be treated.

I think people are more upset that the comic is using calvin and hobbes to make that joke.

If I was a comic artist, I would totally do that to my comic.

Well thats just dumb. Newspaper comics are all in all pretty worthless, second only to political comics.
