I just got back from seeing it- didn't know exactly what to expect- and I had a great time! If you like rock (and various words that rhyme with rock), really wacky shit, and Tenacious D or Jack Black in general, then see this movie!
There are lasers.

The song in this video was in the movie, but the animation (by the Ren & Stimpy animators) was not.

I've been wanting to see it, but Jeebus has been up in the air about it because he doesn't like the trailer. I'm going to use your endorsement to make him go.

Just saw it... Good times. Very Happy

The only thing I didn't like was brief John K. sequence at the beginning. Oh John K., how I wish you were still funny...

Indeed John K. does suck, but the movie was great. I had incredibly low expectations because the initial trailer was awful (though the second showed more promise), but I was pleasantly surprised. If you like Tenacious D, you'll like the movie. The end. There's one part that I thought kinda dragged and wasn't really necessary, but it wasn't enough to make me dislike the movie in any way.

John K. is John Kricfalusi, the creator of the classic animated series Ren & Stimpy as well as the not-so-classic animated series Ripping Friends and several horrible animated shorts featuring Boo Boo from Yogi Bear and The Jetsons. Seperately, not together. John struck gold with Ren & Stimpy, but he was eventually fired from his own show due to his constant fights with Nickelodeon over censorship issues. If the 2003 revival, Ren & Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoon is any indication, John K. should never be given full creative control of a series.
