I'm 2nd on the local borrow list; one of my friends got it, and literally at least ten people want to borrow it when she's done reading it. This book looks completely awesome.

just reading the back made me want to buy it, honestly.
Quirk Books editor Jason Rekulak developed the idea for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies after comparing a list of "popular fanboy characters like ninjas, pirates, zombies and monkeys" with a list of public domain book titles such as War and Peace, Crime and Punishment, and Wuthering Heights.[2][3] He turned the project over to writer Seth Grahame-Smith:
[Rekulak] called me one day, out of the blue, very excitedly, and he said, all I have is this title, and I can't stop thinking about this title. And he said: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. For whatever reason, it just struck me as the most brilliant thing I'd ever heard.[3]
Grahame-Smith began with the original text of Austen's novel, adding zombie and ninja elements while developing an overall plot line for the new material; "you kill somebody off in Chapter 7, it has repercussions in Chapter 56".[1] According to the author, the original text of the novel was well-suited for use as a zombie horror story:
You have this fiercely independent heroine, you have this dashing heroic gentleman, you have a militia camped out for seemingly no reason whatsoever nearby, and people are always walking here and there and taking carriage rides here and there . . . It was just ripe for gore and senseless violence. From my perspective anyway.[2]

Wow, I can't believe this didn't have a thread already. I haven't read the book though I heard it was really good. However, I dislike it on principle because it has since spawned an entire genre of crap, and because there's already enough zombie shit running around.

The original always sent me to sleep.
Hopefully the addition of zombies will liven up some.

Not a book, but here ya go: http://starwarsblog.wordpress.com/2007/10/13/vader-wants-your-brains-star-wars-zombies/
EDIT: Look up Joe Schreiber's Death Troopers
Here’s a synopsis:
When the Imperial prison barge Purge–temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves–breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back–bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.
And death is only the beginning.
The Purge’s half-dozen survivors–two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers, and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board–will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn’t really empty at all. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

Adaptations
The Sunday Times (London) reported on February 8, 2009 that "Hollywood studios are bidding to turn a radical reworking of Austen’s most popular book, now called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a parody to be published in April, into a blockbuster movie."[15]
At a book-signing Q & A held at California State University Fullerton on April 23, 2009, Grahame-Smith reported that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies had officially been purchased by an undisclosed major film company to be produced as a feature film.
It was reported on December 11, 2009 that the film adaptation will be financed and distributed through Lionsgate. It was also reported that Natalie Portman will produce the film and star in the lead role.[16] [17]
In 2010, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel will be published, with Tony Lee adapting the text and art by Cliff Richards.[18]
[edit] Prequel: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls
On October 30 2009, Quirk Books announced that the third book in its Quirk Classics series was to be a prequel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. To be published on March 30, 2010, this book will explore how Elizabeth Bennett became such a seasoned zombie hunter and deals with her early martial arts training and her unfortunate early romantic experiences before the events of the first novel. Seth Grahame-Smith will not be writing the prequel, however, as he is currently involved with another pastische, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Instead, Steve Hockensmith will be its author [19]

It figures Lionsgate would pick something like this up for a movie deal.
