Go to Yahoo. Look at their homepage. Looks the same, right? Sure. Now do a search.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?
The new search results page SUCKS.
Fuck Yahoo. Fuck Jerry Yang. Fuck everyone who works for Yahoo. I hope you all die in a fire.

So are you mad because you did a search for 'Sucks' and ended up with a bunch of porn sites . . . or you didn't find any porn pages and that makes you mad. Sorry syd but i'm a bit confused right now.

I just took my screen shot about a minute before I posted it.

Yeah, it's still there. Are you signed into Yahoo? Jeebus has a theory that you only see it if you're not.

Screwed around with the settings and couldn't find anything to make that sidebar appear. You're using Yahoo US, right? And no, I'm not signed into Yahoo.
My sister had some kind of sidebar like that on Google that was caused by an adware. I doubt it's the case for you, but you could try a scan anyway.

Well, they have been advertising that the new Yahoo is coming for like 2 months now. And when you click on the New Yahoo preview from the home page, the screenshot I posted is consistent with the new look. I had never intentionally clicked the "See the NEW Yahoo!" before five minutes ago, but it's possible that I accidentally clicked it and it added a cookie that forces me to the new results page. That, or the New Yahoo is about to debut and is slowly propagating across the servers.
I use Yahoo.com, which I guess is Yahoo US.

this happened @ work, but it was because i clicked on the 'check out the new yahoo' thing in the corner. i cleared my cookies and it reverted back to the old way. yahoo mail has an option to revert from the new yahoo mail to yahoo mail classic, im sure the search has one too

Yes, Yahoo was planning a redesign and will most likely go through with it.
Expect it to change again very soon. They are going to be incorporating BING search results as their primary search engine. Might as well start changing over to www.bing.com Syd, you'll get the same results.

I will not use bing, because it is a slang word for the clitoris, and that is fucking crass. Also, it sucks.
I guess I have no option but to use Google now, because Ask is designed for grandmothers.

Fun fact:
Basically all search engines now have an "auto complete" function that, once you start typing, shows the most popular searches other users have entered that contain what you have typed. The first thing that shows up when you type "www" in google is "www.yahoo.com" and the first thing that shows up when you type it in yahoo is "google www". Not only is filled with delicious, strawberry flavoured irony, but it shows just how stupid the average person on the internet is.

So, according to that, people use Google to find Yahoo, and vice versa?

RE: Google -> Yahoo, Yahoo -> Google
It makes 100% sense if you understand why they are doing it.
The top website right now is Google. Therefore if you are on Yahoo and you do a search for websites the first thing you should see is Google. It makes sense that since you are already at Yahoo you would not need to search for it.
The second top website is Yahoo. Therefore if you are on Google and you do a search for websites the first thing you should see is Yahoo. It makes sense that since you are already at Google you would not need to search for it.
