Given that I've had a bit of an upheaval at work (long story short: I've got a brand new boss taking over), it got me thinking about what I spent my first paycheck on.

I remember going to Babbage's and buying a copy of Neverwinter Nights. This was before any of the expansions had come out, I think it had only been out for maybe a month if that. Good times. Though I have to confess I didn't get any further than Act 3's beginning (I'd done every quest I could as an elven rogue/ranger so I was already 20th level).

So, what did you guys get with your first paychecks?

My first paycheck went to my mom, to pay for the graphing calculator she had to replace when I accidentally left my bookbag on the bandhall over February vacation and the retarded janitors threw it out.

That would have been back in 1996, so I imagine I probably spent it on Genesis or SNES games at Funcoland.

I worked a shift late in the week so my first paycheck was for 3 hours at $4.10/hr. After taxes I think I walked away with about $8 bucks. I don't think I was able to do anything with it until I got a few more checks.

I saved most and spent a little here or there on basic things like food. It wasn't until I was 18 when I decided to buy jewelry for my girlfriend, a $25 silver locket. Turned out to be the best investment ever. I married her and have been with her now for over 10 years.

my first paycheck from working after school helping the janitor bought me some shoes i think.

well, w/this in mind, my first huge paycheck bought me and my sister some much needed braces.

i was part of this program for under-privileged kids called the SER program. basically, its summer school, you get high school credit + they pay you an hourly wage for the whole time you are there (about a month or so) and at the end of the school session, you get paid a real huge check.

I probably didn't spend it right away. I remember being in awe at having like $63 and being able to do anything I wanted with it.

Good question. My first unofficial paycheck was from tutoring at my high school...I'm sure that just went to food or something like that. My first real paycheck from Target came a few years later, and I have no idea what I spent it on. Gas, I'm assuming, and saving up for my truck. Prices were pretty nasty in SoCal even back then.

Likely for me too, or a different playing card game, like WWE Raw Deal.

I helped a friend out working a few days at a mini-golf course. I got paid around $200 for the "work" we did. All we had to do was take money, give people their clubs/balls, and lock up the little office area. We ended up playing mini-golf most of the time anyway.

Anyway I remember buying a few things with the money. Some CDs, some Magic The Gathering Fallen Empires packs and other various stuff. I bought the 1994 Offspring album Smash with some of the money.
