I avoided this show like the plague for years, but when I was recently hospitalized I watched a marathon of this show.
First off, I might as well go ahead and admit that the main draw of this show for me is that it makes all my problems, all the things that I think are shitty and fucked up in my life seem tiny. There is nothing like watching someone freebase while their cat/baby/grandma starves to death. Or the alcoholic who thinks they are high functioning when they can't even get to work to pay the rent.
It's selfish, but I usually watch this show to feel better about myself.
Does anyone else watch?

i have seen a couple of episodes. dont care too much for it. dont hate it, but im not going out of my way to watch it.
(friends have even said they would put me on this show, cause of my drinking, but it doesnt make sense because i still handle all my responsibilities)
at any rate, this show is just like Cheaters, taking someone elses problems and making a buck out of it. so, im torn about it, because ultimately the person that needs help, gets help, but at what cost? at being embarrassed nationally? i guess this is a case of where the ends justify the means.
but, i understand your point. all the BS you go thru pales in comparison to what these people have gone thru or are going thru.

Alcoholism is stepped based, you don't just wake up one day and drink uncontrollably and neglect your family, job and responsibilities. Someone could be a big drinker and handling what they have to for a while, then a few months later may start the neglect and deterioration. Also, most people who are confronted by family and friends are usually in denial about their problem.
I am sure that this was prob. more along the lines of "haha, username name is a lush, we should totally put him on that show" type jabbing from your friends...in other words this is an opinion on the general matter, not an attack on you personally.

yeah, with all the reality shows that there has been, I am surprised I still don't know anyone who has been on one

I don't personally watch but I know a few people who do, and now that you bring it up, watching it to feel better about themselves is probably why they do

I'm not interested in this show, I know people who are going through crap like this and when you get to look it in the face it's not entertaining.

My Dad loves this show so I see it a lot. It's okay, but I still think they should use the COC song as the theme.

I catch this show occassionally.
I hate the people with eating disorders, as those are lame. It's usually entertaining for the first half when they demonstrate how the addicts live their lives. Although, by the time of the intervention, it tends to be a bit too "heavy" for me to want to watch anymore, even though I still do sometimes out of sheer curiosity.
I watch the show; its quality is really inconsistent. Some episodes, like the video game addiction episode, show that the producers are just grasping for straws to fill content. Then there is the Allison episode, which is probably the funniest television I have seen in years
They staged that right? There's not really a rather scary woman addicted to inhaling dust cleaner, right? Please tell me so, please.

I find it hard to believe that you can’t see humor in this or how some people might; yeah she had a problem, that’s not hard to see. This girl is ridiculous.

I may sound like an asshole, but I don't feel bad for people like that. You're generally taught in school that inhaling household products is bad, not to mention the warnings on the products themselves. If you're desperate and/or retarded enough to try it in the first place, then you'll invoke no empathy from me. I don't care what people do honestly, as long as they are responsible for themselves and their dependents and can still take care of business when need be.
As for the show, nope. I prefer to watch something that expands my mind or at least entertains me. Drama, in most cases, doesn't entertain me because I see enough of it in life that's not my own. I would put this kind of show a peg above shit like Wife Swap and Trading Spouses and one below Nanny 911. While Nanny 911 is obviously and obscenely overproduced, I think it's good to become associated with parenting techniques as soon as possible, and I've learned a bit in the few episodes I've seen. Granted, employing said techniques efficaciously is a different story, but I want children and I want to be as prepared as possible for the war.
