First off i realize this is thin ice, but I want to see peoples thoughts on this.
As long as it is used to help the needy i say go ahead and clone livestock. I don't agree with cloning humans to be used as soldiers or for organs. There is a difference between something that was given to us to be food, and a human being.
And thank you CB for helping me reword this

Waffles are definately superior to humans or cows. especially Belgian waffles.
I say waffle cloning should definately be studied.

I just don't see why they don't clone organs that people have donated. That way we wouldn't have the whole "The Island" thing going on.

If organs can be cloned do it
but not by cloning humans to be used for, excuse the term, "spare parts"

How would that work? They're not made of stem cells, so they can't really divide or anything. I'm not even sure stem cells divide, the only one I'm sure that does is the ovum.

^ I just assumed they could because they cloned dolly. So I thought " So if they can clone animals why not clone organs?"
Of course, this is proably why I failed biology.

From what I remember about cloning, they take an ovum, remove the nucleus, put in the nucleus of a cell of the animal to be cloned, and somehow insert it in the womb of another animal.
The clone's cells are the same age as the original's ones, because it got the same kind of cell with the "damaged" ADN (it has some useless bits at the end that slowly disappear,
and when it's all gone the ADN actually starts getting attacked and you die).

They can clone human parts in animals. There was a cloned sheep a few years back that had a human liver.
Cloning is fuck yes, because:
1) Humanity: 1, God: 0
2) It could preserve rare genetic traits. You're the last person on the earth that can roll their tongue? Not anymore, bitch, let's clone you.

Genetic engineering as a science is important, however there should be strict laws that define its use. To start, there should never be any animal/human cloning. We cannot and will not ever know the moral implications of such action. I do however like the idea of cloning food products and individual organs.
The big thing we need to make sure of is that we aren't degrading the quality of our existence. Over the last 50 years the number of nutrients in common fruits has been reduced by almost half due to the way that they farm them and mass produce them. It would be a terrible shame if we didn't think about the consequences prior to taking actions.

See, there's something I think people seem to be missing. You can't clone a steak. You clone a cow, and then it provides many steaks. From a moral standpoint, this is WORSE than cloning a human because not only are you artificially creating life, you're artificially creating life for the sole purpose of destroying it. This has nothing to do with whether I'm for or against cloning, but you can't disregard cloning livestock for the sake of food by simply saying "they're not people, so it doesn't matter".

We already breed livestock for consumption, how would cloning them for consumption be any worse?

I've got to disagree. I think cloning life for the sole purpose of consuming it is perfectly fine from a moral standpoint. Like Syd said, we're essentially doing this already by breeding animals purely for consumption.

This.
Also, I highly doubt entire humans will ever be cloned. Most if not all of the animals that have been cloned were born with a crapload of birth defects, so imagine what kind of fun little birth defects a human clone would be afflicted with.

I could see this having moneymaking potential in the adult entertainment world. If someone is willing to pay $200 or whatever for a rubber mold of some porn chick's goodies, they'd pay way more for a real version.

Depends on what the end result of a soul is or isn't.
Imagine if it turned out that each being had a soul and every clone divided it. Repeatedly killing a being with a singular soul would be about the worst thing I can imagine.
If souls don't exist then it won't matter in the end anyways.

That's getting into the religious/spiritual side of things. But again, I don't have a problem with it, being that we already do it with breeding animals for consumption.
Is it worse to kill the same soul 1000 times, or to kill 1000 souls once each?
