It seems we've finally created transparent aluminum, a "new state of matter" by bombarding it with the strongest soft X-ray laser we have.

Science is great. Just when everybody is getting old and comfortable someone brings something neat and new, giving us a fancy new tech to enjoy and a fresh genre of movie monster, in this case a spontaneous radioactive robot.

The Air Force has been experimenting with Aluminum Oxynitride as a replacement for current transparent armor, pretty cool stuff.
