New film version of "Rats of NIMH" in works.

I was intrigued at first, but then I read those dreaded words:

"Live action/CGI comparable to Alvin and the Chipmunks"

Right now, I have the feeling that this is gonna be hit or miss. Miss if they actually surgically remove what made Secret of NIMH memorable to begin with (I'm looking at you, Secret of NIMH 2...).

I picked "other" because I feel impending dread.

Another childhood memory buttfucked. Why does this one even NEED a remake? Honestly? I understand adapting/rebooting a franchise like Batman/Transformers/what have you, even a retelling of a classic story like Narnia/LoTR. But why does this movie need to be redone when the original is so perfect and lacking nothing? I can't imagine a take on it that would add anything, and therefore it seems like a cinematic waste of space waiting to happen.

Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic. But when you put Mrs. Frizby, Nicodemus and Justin in the same league as Alvin, Simon and Theodore...even when just discussing animation...that does not bode well.

Secret of NIMH terrified the piss out of me the first time I saw it. That made me want to keep watching it over and over again. I have no idea why.

A remake doesn't really bother me, though. But that's just 'cause I have no real intention of watching it.

I hope it’s ALL live action with no CGI at all. Put all human actors in costumes.

Here’s the cast:
Mr. Ages: Ed Asner
The Great Owl: Abe Vigoda
Antie Shrew: Queen Latifa
Mrs. Brisby: Niomi Watts
Jeremy the Crow: Steve Carrell
Nicodemus: Sir Ian McKellen (with a foo-man-choo)
Martin: Chaz Bono
Timmy: Trey Parker “Timmmmay”

I think the movie is good, but certainly not "greatest cartoon evar!!1!1!" like it's made out to be. I swear I have read over 10 "Best Cartoon Movie" list's and it's always number one.

It is a good movie, and I loved it as a child, but it is not something to wet your pants over.

Wow, i'm the only one so far to pick NO!!!!.

I'm going to say this now . . . Hollywood, if you are so bankrupted for ideas then why not just put the original Don Bluth film in theaters with digitally remaster or some shit. Why the fuck spend the money to piss on something that was awesome in the 1980s. Seriously, Disney pulled this shit in the past and they still got free cash for it and only had to get the movie in theaters, it was already made and your guaranteed to have an audience because the theater experience will always trump watching the same thing on TV.

I mean . . . why? Everything you remake of the 1980s sucks hard, so why not just make a quick buck and not bother to make remakes, just put the old school stuff on screen. The nerds that love the franchises will shut up and you'll get free cash from the newer generations of nerds too. It's fucking sad that i've come up with a better idea, half dazed out of my head, then you could with 12 exec for 3 hours. It's also not going to cost you millions to make a film because the movie is already made, i had to reiterate that because i know you, dear Hollywood, have a short attention span.

Hell, if you put Bluth's Secrets of NIMH in Imax, i would pay to see it. Because i love that movie and never saw it in theaters and best yet i haven't seen it in a long time so I'll appreciate it even more. The more i type this the more it seems like a better idea then another CGI puke fest. You know what, go do that hollywood. Go put Bluth's classics in imax, you'll still get my 20 bucks and i'll actually like to give you the money because the nostalgia will blind my nerd rage. It's win-win for both of us. Go do that now Hollywood and throw this 'project' into the junk bin.

Seriously Hollywood, if you want money, then fine, just stop being retarded about it and fucking with my childhood.

It's not so much a franchise as it is one really well done movie, and one movie that is never spoken of. But yes, the first one is definitely worth tracking down.

The first time I ever heard of it was quite recently, when I started watching a lot of Nostalgia Critic. He said it's really good and considered it the number one under-rated nostalgia classic (or some term like that).

Looks like I should check it out sometime if it's available at my local video store!

They should just lave it with the animated classic. It was great and does not need to be messed with. but this is Hollywood we are talking about.

Note to Hollywood: if you're gonna resurrect an animated series/movie, make it LOOK like the series/movie.
