This is an op-ed piece on the PSP and how poorly it did this year. The end part, where the guy sucks Apple's dick really irritates me. As an iPhone owner, I can tell you most of the games for it are complete shit. Super Monkey Ball, a franchise which was seemingly invented by someone prescient of the iPhone, plays VERY poorly on the system. The only game I've paid for on the iPhone that's been any good is Trism, which is a ridiculously fucking addictive Bejeweled variant. The iPhone/iPod Touch is not the way of the future. Its sole means of control are touch and tilt, and that doesn't leave a lot of room for game innovation. Remember the first generation of DS games, where everything had needless touch controls added in? That's basically what every iPhone game is.

The problem for the PSP is lack of titles, not the goddam iPhone. If the Wii has shovelware, I hereby move that iPhone games be refered to as molestware, pokeware, tiltware, and rapeware.

Oh God. Just took a look at that article and it angered me too. I'm not a handheld gaming fan at all (never liked playing games on small screens), but the extent to which this dude blows Apple is annoying. He might as well have approached Justin Long and asked to whack him off while the nerdy PC guy watches.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Actually, now that you mentioned it, the ending of that article kinda sucked. The first half of the article was about Nintendo's DS moving more units than the PSP and a contrast of Sony's and Nintendo's systems. It talked about how Nintendo is beating Sony in sales, despite the huge difference in hardware.

Then, it talked about Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch for no apparent reason. The PSP is supposed to be a gaming system, the iPod Touch is supposed to be a music player and the iPhone is an overrated smartphone. (I'd rather have a BlackBerry, but I have neither.) The comparison is way off.

I knew that "pokeware" had nothing to to with Pokemon, though I thought that you called it "pokeware" because the companies are "poking" into the industry with crappy games.

As an avid PSP user, I'll just say outright that I hate this guy's guts. As Syd said, the iPhone isn't even a solid gaming system.

They definitely want the iPhone and iPod Touch to be gaming systems... The next Metal Gear Solid game is being made specifically for them.

Well, yes, the PSP's 2009 schedule is looking bleak. Very bleak. The only good games coming this year for it I can name off the top of my head are:

Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Prinny: Can I really be the hero? (a Disgaea old-school style action platformer spinoff that looks to be Megaman hard)
Hammerin' Hero (a Hammerin' Harry sequel)
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
LocoRoco 2
that Resistance game
Yumi's odd odyssey

And not much else. The devs are dropping it like a fly, like it said in the article.

Yes, and while the iPhone does suck for games, people are buying them =/

Oh, guess what? That MGS game is gonna suck. The gameplay is similar to Duck Hunt and Link's Crossbow Training.

Duck Hunt and LCT are awesome. But a touch based version of those games is dumb.

But a Hammerin Harry sequel? Holy shit! DO WANT.

Isn't Dissidia already out?

DS gets a GTA game this year and DQ9, which should be awesome.

I didn't even know iPhone and iPod Touch had games.

It was kind of funny to me. Hehehe.

I have a PSP, and I actually played the shit out of it. I actually broke the joystick in it and have to either A) fix it myself or B) pay someone to do it.

Its like playing a PS1 while still being able to watch TV and on the road. I love the sports games for it. I know im probably one of ten people, but I still liked it. The Need for Speed games are more fun on the PSP then they are on the consoles.

I also have a DS, and see how people can like that, but I heard that the EA sports games (really just madden) suck for it. But, Super Mario 64 DS is amazing, and I really like cooking mama, even though it gets monotonous.

A DS would be a much better investment in Nintendo than a Wii. The Wii sucks balls.

Clearly the Wii sucks balls, that's why it's sold 10 million more units than the 360 and almost 18 million more units than the PS3 wordlwide.

Oh, wait...

I think DS is the best Mario Kart, yeah.

And the reason people say the Wii sucks is because it attracts "CASUALS OH GOD" and the seemingly narrow choice of good games.

Those people need to cry some more.

I mean, granted, I would love to see another F-Zero, or Rogue Squadron or something, but there's still good stuff out there for the Wii.

[slight rant]
Well, we all have our opinions. Some of us believe that the amount of shovelware Nintendo has allowed this generation is appalling. Others believe that Nintendo is kind of abandoning the traditional gamer. SSBB, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing released this year for the Wii, and only three titles published by Nintendo that appeal to me in an entire year is rather disheartening.

Yes, the Wii is a massive success and has expanded the market, and it does have quite a few quality games. However, I feel that Nintendo has changed its focus and it is just releasing traditional games to appease us at this point. ZOMG MORE WII FITZ!

[/slight rant]

Anyway, back on topic. The iphone is not a gaming platform. The guy who wrote that article should be killed. People who think a touchscreen and only a touchscreen will outperform good ol' buttons in everything are not the brightest. Some games work well with a touchscreen while others don't. Oh apple fanboys, how I love them.

Eh, the Wii is good enough for me. I mean, yeah, it does try to attract casual gamers, but I still think it's a hardcore gamer's system too.

My thought on this matter is that Nintendo is just trying to make sense out of the high-definition, 3-D graphics thing that is apparently a necessity in video games these days. At least Nintendo is/was trying to throw things around with the Wii Remote, even if it didn't work as well as Nintendo planned. The XBOX 360's controller is essentially the same as the original XBOX's and Sony doesn't seem to be implementing the motion sensors in the PS3 controller anymore.

To be honest, I only have two complaints about the Wii:

1.) Lack of Sufficient Memory: This is a real problem for me because I tend to go overboard on Virtual Console titles. The Wii can only hold so many games before you have to delete some of them and make room for others, which is tedious as all-hell because in order to play them again, you either have to A.) re-download them from the Wii Shop Channel, or B.) re-upload them from your SD card, should you have one.

And as for one final kick in the balls, you can't directly access anything from the SD card. If Nintendo doesn't come up with a firmware update that would allow us to access content from the SD card, I may have to start sending death threats.

2.) The Motherfucking Friend Codes: As you may have noticed, I went a bit ballistic and made an Animal Crossing: City Folk desperation thread, because I apparently need to give my friend code to a person and need his/her friend code before I can play a game of hide-and-seek. If we could at least register friend codes through the Wii Message Board, or better yet, have no friend codes at all, I wouldn't have had to make the thread. If only I could hack the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, I would register everyone onto my friend list.

Ah PSP. I had such high hopes. I bought mine before christmas last year along with a handful of games. I'm up to 13 games (thereabouts) and I enjoy it. It's a good little handheld. I can watch some pirated movies on it and play games every now and then. But I am not a fan of it, I think. I never see any good games or at least any games worth me paying $30 for. There is such a big gap between the titles I want that it depresses me.
As for the wii... I have it. And I won't sell it. I bought is just for Brawl. I have Brawl and I love it. I have a couple games for the system but they are all plagued with problems, either with the controls or with the camera or something. Not to mention anything having to do with the internet sucks.
