Yup, just like the title says.

Apparently, on July 9th, Sun Danyong received 16 prototypes of the fourth generation iPhone from the assembly line at Foxconn. Over the course of the next few days, he discovered that one was missing and reported it to his employer. Two days later, on July 15th, three Foxconn employees allegedly showed up at his house and searched his apartment -- in violation of Chinese law. He was detained and -- according to some reports -- abused. The next night, according to reported surveillance footage, Sun leaped to his death from his apartment window.

Pretty insane stuff, this guy had to of been under an extraordinary amount of pressure.

Definitely, alot of the details are still being translated in real time so there is still more to the story, also did you see this part?

Apple is known for its secrecy and ability to surprise the industry, so we can only imagine that there's considerable pressure to maintain employee silence. Leaking iPhone secrets would mean disaster for Foxconn's relationship with Apple, so when the phone went missing, Sun's employers may have resorted to unethical measures.

Foxconn sounds very shady. WHAT!?

There are still a few bugs to work out.

Well heck, I didn't even need to read any further after seeing that. Being an engineer alone can be a stressful experience. But when you're working on a highly in-demand product and various people including your employer(s) are breathing down your neck, it becomes too much for some people. After all, engineers don't make a lot of money for nothing.

It's mostly sad because he was so young and had much potential in front of him, yet he died by his own hand. I'm sure things could've gotten better if he had stuck with it. Sad

I appreciate the fact I was born in America as well, but I have to agree with you on that. Many Americans I know are self-absorbed, lazy, and uncaring (aside from when it comes to caring about themselves). I'm not being anti-American or anything like that; it's merely human nature to be like that and existent everywhere.

We don't care about human life unless the human in question released a successful album or was on a popular sitcom.

Let's assume for a moment that the missing item was nuclear launch codes, instead of an iPhone prototype. Do you really think that Foxconn did anything that Jack Bauer wouldn't have done? Of course not. Whatever Foxconn may have done to Sun Danyong may not be ethical to you ivory tower liberals who see the world in black and white, but to those of us out there who are realists and who see the many shades of grade that exist, Foxconn is a hero. They had the courage do what was necessary in the face of extraordinary circumstances. They exist outside the law, so that those of us who live within the law can sleep a little easier at night.

This story is a bummer and it's really sad that people are so dependent on cellphones too. I have no use for one really, but that does not make me anti-technology. Realistically the only reason I would need a cell phone is for an emergency, which is why I own a dinky little tracfone that I keep in the glove box. These new doohickys are a convenience item, and it sucks to see someone die over something so meaningless.

There are still people who exist outside of the grid, so to speak. Wink
