Been thinking of a debut thread to make here that hasn't already been covered. If it has, my apologies.

To this day, I still haven't watched The Shawshank Redemption in it's entirety. I guess the main reason would be that I've read the synopsis to it plenty of times (so I know the overall gist) and it just doesn't sound like the same movie that receives so much hype and praise. Of course, the same could be said of other great movies, too. I guess I'm just too lazy to track it down any time soon. That doesn't mean I wont eventually.

Oh, and every Harry Potter movie after the 3rd one...

That was the first movie I ever took a girl to on a date. If it weren't for that reason, I probably would have listed it instead of Shawshank.

Never saw Broke Back Mountain, the woman is trying to trick me into it. Then I said if I watch it I get to sleep with who ever I want. I have not heard about it since.

Oh guys, if you've never seen Shawshank or Schindler's List, you've GOT to check them out. Really, I can't recommend them highly enough. Same goes for Casablanca, if only because the cast is all beyond amazing. (The movie itself is a bit overrated if you ask me, I mean its not the end-all and be-all of cinema like a lot of people seem to think, but its still a damn good movie.) And Douche, Brokeback is also actually quite a good movie, although it really kinda falls apart in the last 10-15 minutes. The rest is well worth it though, if only for the scenery and performances.

As for me...I guess 300. No real desire to see it. There's probably more, but I can't think of them atm.

Shawshank was OK, but I was not overly impressed. I pretty much knew the ending about 10 minutes in. The music was good though.

I hate when I mention a movie I have not seen and people actually get ANGRY. They usually I insist I watch it with them, and I try to be as polite as I can while also saying I have no desire to sit and do anything with a person like that.

If a person insists it's one of the best movies ever made, you are almost always let down.

I never saw Titanic or The Wall. And my wife owns both.

In Shawshank's defense, that's one movie that's firmly about the journey, and not the destination. The book, in fact, gives away the basic fact of the ending on the very first page.

I'll second the one about people actually getting angry, though. Its even worse when you say you've seen a movie and didn't LIKE it and they get pissed. Then it just turns into a long ass debate with you trying to justify your *opinion*, which is a huge pain in the ass.

SH, i respect your opinion, but Brokeback Mountain was not a good movie. even if you take out the gay stuff, the movie was just a bad love story. if it was two chicks instead of two dudes, it would be a bad skinemax movie.

the acting was decent, since both actors are good actors, but the story was just boring, mundane and trite. and gay

Yeah, I have no problem with homosexuality at all, but I feel if I was gay and that movie was suppose to represent gay people somehow that I would be insulted. It bored the shit out of me and was only worth watching for the cinematography.

No, I hear you guys, and you're probably right. I guess I just loved the scenery and the idea of living in a place like that so much that I wasn't as bothered by the triteness of the script as I would otherwise have been. I'm sure if you made the story about two construction workers instead of cowboys, and set it in a city instead of the mountains like that, I wouldn't have liked it nearly as much. I'm just a sucker for Alberta, I guess. Embarrassed

Although that said, I still don't think it was terrible. But it was pretty generic and uninteresting on a plot level, especially if you don't like that kind of relationship-oriented movie anyway.

If you can't get ahold of it, at least try DarkMaze's Turkish Rambo.

I'll second 300. I had no desire to see that when it came out also, as the trailers made it look like style over substance and nothing more. I dunno, the whole movie looked silly to me, but now that the hype's died down I guess I would give it a chance.

Just remembered another one...Psycho. Which is actually pretty bad considering I'm somewhat of a horror movie buff.
