did anybody ever use these

I used them twice

once calling to Jaleco about Maniac Mansion

then one time to Williams on how to unlock Smoke in MK3

the later turned into a problem because the reps kept saying "hold right on the control pad", I equated this to holding the right button on the top of the SNES gamepad, I didn't realize the control pad was the directional arrow buttons until after the 5th time calling a guy finally freed me from noobdome and told me the correct way to do it.

I called twice that I recall:

--To find out how to get the white mushroom house to appear in SMB3. (don't think I ever succesfully did it, in spite of the call.)

--To ask where the Titan's Mitt in Zelda: Link to the Past was located. All those darker stones that the power glove wouldn't lift were killing me with suspense.

Haha, yea, this is just like in Metroid when you see all those doors that you can't open yet because your still waiting to get the appropriate weapon.

I did one time before we had internet. It was kirby 64 and i was one gem away from collecting them all, also note i rented this game too and it was the first time i was close in doing a 100% run on a game i rented.

I remember she tried to drag the conversation as long as possible, come to find out all i needed was to shoot a fire arrow at a rug. Of course they had to keep people on the phone as long as possible so what could have been a three minute conversation ended up being ten.

When we got the internet, I never need the hot line or Nintendo power ever again.

Thank god I'm a 90's kid. I've always had the internet, so I never used the hotlines, myself.

Besides, I'm so phone-shy that it's trouble alone just blurting out the words.

Never called one up, but my dream job when I was little was to work for one of them for some reason.

wow, i actually found the skeleton key by pure luck too. Really, who would think to enter the first mirror that did jack when you first entered the level.

And at the time i did not know a hotline even existed so i was left to my own devices. I spent countless hours in metroid looking for shit, a hotline would have helped.

I ran up $80 in phone charges calling the supposedly "free" number advertised in Nintendo Power. I was calling for Shadowgate, and to a lesser extent Dragon Warrior 2. I got in a lot of trouble for that.
