When people say "graphics don't matter,." Honestly they do, but not in the way that most people imagine. A game can be fun without being good-looking (arcade games, etc.), but what makes a truly great game that can be held high as great art is its competency in all aspects. To me, graphics are important when it comes to art, design, and playability. When you can apply great art to graphics, interesting settings, and fun-to-explore, glitch-free worlds, it's really what separates good games from great games.
Braid and Limbo have risen above many other Arcade and even major-release games not just because of their engaging gameplay, but their beautiful, atmospheric worlds. Without their graphics, these games would just be fun platformers with neat ideas. I'd take the greyscale, oppressive, atmospheric environment of Limbo over the dull normal-mapping of Crysis, but that doesn't keep me from thinking that many modern games are better than classics because of great art, and immersive worlds that only graphic experts could pull off.

Spending 50 bucks to get a cartridge of Megaman Ultra online, and when you get it it is just fucking Megaman 1 with a Megaman Ultra sticker on it!(that may be a little hard to relate to)

When the regular use of a voice sample causes it to be cut short often, it tells me that they didn't think it through.

Playing Golden Sun, defeated Agatio and Karst even though I'm severely under the level I should be, so I could get Dark Matter. Go through all the cut scenes, when done, find out there is no room for the Dark Matter and it gets thrown away.
If I had a reaction picture of extreme rage, I would post it.

Yea, definitely the blue shells in Mario Kart DS/Wii. You can be dominating a race and then get hit with 3 on the last lap dropping you to like 6th place. Especially when it's the last race in the cup. Shit boils my blood.

I remember that the battle wasn't really too difficult, but it was really drawn out and to many cutscenes happen during the fight. I also recall that getting the blacksmith to make what you want was a pain because the item was determined randomly.
The good news is that you get points for playing Golden Sun.

Has anyone mentioned the speeder bike stage in the first BattleToads yet? I think that's like impossible.
Not to brag, but I somehow beat beat Mean Bean Machine on the hardest setting a few years back. I was just in the zone. But I can't fathom beating the speeder bike stage.

Yup. Maybe it would be easy now that I'm older, but I still have nightmares about it.

It's tough, but doable. Like a lot of other people, I always seemed to hit the warp in that level. Not on purpose, but because the blocks start coming at you impossibly fast.

Didn't it make you start over if you were playing with two players and just one of you hit the wall? Maybe I'm wrong...

Gosh I love your username, but to stay on topic, I hate missable items. I don't feel I should have to have a FAQ next to me the whole time playing a game because my memory sucks

Thanks. I hate that too. Especially when you miss an item or fuck something up, save the game, and can't beat the game. Like in Phantasy Star 1 or Monkey Island. But I do love those game.

Dunno. Didn't do a lot of co-op. Co-op always made games like that way harder. In Double Dragon II, I used to always start a two player game and then beat the second player to death for extra lives.

I guess it all depends on who you play with. If they're good and use the same strategy as you then they can be a great help. I remember having good times with friends in like Final Fight for Sega CD, the Streets of Rage games, and the Turtles arcade games. But DD2 for NES was totally awesome.

Whoa whoa whoa. Co-op in Streets of Rage and Final Fight is MUCH DIFFERENT than something like Battletoads or Contra. In SOR and FF, the worst thing your friend can do is hide in the corner and make you fight tough bad guys all by yourself. In Battletoads, if they don't keep pace with you, then you die.

I see what you're saying. There is a big difference between those games, especially when you have to share lives or continues with other players.
Although in games like Streets or Final Fight your friend might take all the heath or 1ups for themselves even though they don't need it and you're almost on empty. Plus in Streets you can be a punk and grab your partner and throw them into a pit. But you'd have to be an asshole to do that.

Thanks for those points.
And I remind you, I was severely underleveled. As for the cutscenes, I didn't mind them too much. It kept it moving (cutscenes DURING battles? No thanks. A quick cut out of the battle is much more preferable. To me, at least).
Also, the Dark Matter has a certain percentage of becoming a certain item. Let me find the facts..
Here we go.
Darksword (10%)
Stealth Armor (30%)
Terra Shield (25%)
Fear Helm (20%)
Demon Circlet (15%)
Since I'm playing on an emulator, I just quicksave and keep trying until I get what I want. Whoo!
