I am holding out for the Metroid game where they let you play as the metroid and you fly around sucking the life force out of everything in the galaxy. You would have to hide away on spaceships and there would be a bit of sneaking around, kind of survival horror aspect to it, like "Oh shit space pirates are trying to capture me and use me for experiments and bounty hunters are trying to exterminate me... BUT I WILL SURVIVE!!!!!!" They can just use the soundtracks from the original Metroid on NES and Super Metroid from the SNES and have someone update them a little bit, but not change them much. Or, an original score from Mike Patton. 6

Fusion was fun, but it felt short.

If you're looking for Super Metroid 2, this isn't it. If you're looking for Prime 4, this isn't it either. And we were never promised those things.

Some people are saying this game is "on rails". That's not true, but I can understand where the confusion comes from. Rolling through morph tunnels is semi-automated and wall-kicks are fully automated. You mash jump and you ascend the broken elevator shaft effortlessly.

The best comparison I can think of is this - Other M is like Soulcalibur Legends or Onechanbara, only good. Imagine one of those games with well- designed levels, solid controls, and a diverse array of textures and enemies. That's pretty much Other M.

Maybe i'll turn it back on since I beat Scott Pilgrim today. I got stuck in a room with a whole in a room and a super missle locked door. I looked everywhere so I said fuck it and turned it off.

This is insane, at least for me. So many of you are talking shit about a game I'm still dying to play, but can't because my Wii needs an upgrade to read dual-layered discs, such as that one.

Are you in Sector 1? If so, I got stuck at this part for a bit too. You don't need Super Missiles. There's a way around the door from another room.

I must have tried everything I could think of. I went to the other side of the room through the glass scanned around everywhere. Tried for about 15 miniutes to try and get the missle pack in the air duct before deeming it impossible, went back to the room with the ramp you can't walk back up and the locked door and rolled around and scanned everywhere, after about 20 minutes I gave up and started playing FallOut 3.

You need to get into that stupid air duct. It's a lot easier than it seems.

Yes. Try regular jumping instead of bomb/spring-jumping.

Also, you don't get into the duct from the fishtank, which is probably where you noticed the missile.

No I tried bomb jumping to get up there. I swear to god if I get home and I can jump up and cling to the duct and roll inside I'm slashing a puppies throat.

I tried bomb jumping too. Perhaps if I hadn't played the older games, that wouldn't have been my first instinct.

And I'm at the point where, apparently, you have to go back to the hologram room (after the giant worms) and look for a glitch when the hologram is turned on.

I've been stuck for days.

Are you talking about the first first-person puzzle in the game?
Look behind rocks and bushes to progress.

Otherwise I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about.

I think I understand where you are (if you are still there). The glitch is in the lower right part of the room, just bomb it and you will progress.

And btw, I don't understand all the negativity, I'm having a blast with this game so far. It feels very much like the old games in 2d, even though it is a bit too linear for my taste. I also miss the good old Metroid thunes, but hey, the gameplay is great, and the story seems not to shabby too so far. Guess I'm going back playing it!

OK, so let me put this out there--

I loved the 2d Metroid offerings, but didn't really care too much for the Prime series. I played through and beat Prime 1 and 2, but gave up about 30 minutes into Prime 3. Do you think I'd like Other M? I love Metroid, but I'm a little skeptical.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

Well, I did not care to much for the Primes either, and so far I really like Other M which feels much closer to the metroids of old in my opinion. However there is quite a bit of story, cutscenes and not always impressive voice acting here, and the game also feels much more linear than the old 2d metroids, but if that does not plague you to much, I would say you should give it a try. The auto-hit function gives the 3d combat a very 2d-feel, which at least I love. And the areas are generally well done with tons of secrets, which is always fun. Also, the graphics are f*cking great, and it really looks like a modern Metroid. I miss the classic metroid-music though (the theme from deeper brinstar in super metroid ftw).

I believe I am pretty close to the end now, and I must say that even though the game is a great step forward for the Metroid-series, it does have a few flaws. Worst of all in my opinion is the heavy focus on combat. No, don't get me wrong, the combat is fun, the set pieces interesting, and combat should always be an essential part of a metroid-experience. However, playing the old Metroid-games always felt quite relaxing compared to pure action-games like contra and ninja gaiden, because most of the enemies was ridiculously weak compared to you, and you spent most of your time scouting the area wondering where to go next. In this much more linear metroid, the bosses and mini-bosses jump at you with such an high frequency that I have to play it in really short doses to not get to stressed. It is just a bit to much for me. Then again, what was there really to expect from Team Ninja?

Now, I really hope Nintendo and Team Ninja will continue what they have going here with Metroid Another M which should just fix a few of the issues in this game, and we will finally get a game as good as Super Metroid in 3d.

Oh god I hate this game.

Hate hate hate HATE this game.

Look, I'm a big Metroid fan. I wasn't particularly fond of the Prime games but I understood their appeal. This, on the other hand, is a travesty. Among a much larger list:
  • This story makes me want to cry, it's so bad. Suddenly Samus is a dependent baby, completely kowtowing to this Adam jerk? The whole thing feels like some Final Fantasy XIII nonsense.
  • You can just recharge your health and missiles by.... thinking magical thoughts? What the hell is this?
  • It just feels like mini boss battle after mini boss battle. No, don't you dare explore; we've locked you in a small room to fight these monsters. Don't worry; you'll be doing exactly the same thing in the next room.
  • Where is the goddamn music? Do I just have to hum it myself?
  • SHE HAS ALL HER WEAPONS BUT WON'T USE THEM UNTIL ADAM SAYS SHE CAN????? SHE CAN'T USE HER VARIA SUIT TO PROTECT HERSELF FROM THE HEAT UNTIL ADAM SAYS SHE CAN OH MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS GAME??!?!?!?!?!

I kinda forgot this game existed.

How do you fuck up a Metroid game with Ninja Gaiden mechanics? What the fuck, Team Ninja?

A wise choice.

Oh, I forgot one other thing: the voice acting. Jessica Martin is SO BAD as Samus -- so utterly, Valium-hooveringly dull and lifeless -- that it very nearly put me off the damn game from first word out of her mouth.

There were worse stories told through gaming last year.

Lords of Shadow and Heavy Rain stand out.

I'm absolutely sure you're correct, but I don't care about those other games. I care about Metroid!

Yea, I still can't bring myself to beat it.

I love all the other Metroid games, and this game looks great, I just don't really enjoy myself or feel real immersed while playing it.

The plot isn't great, but I enjoy playing it. Now I know how all those fans of post-VII Final Fantasy games feel.

Immersion is such an overused word. I don't feel immersed when I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy... I feel like I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy. And I will get that fucking star, dammit!
