Rather than start a new thread I'll revive this

I never got the theater job but I have found another job to apply for. The job is at my towns DI, which stands for Deseret industries which is a thrift store run by the LDS church. I heard a few full time peeps are quitting and a part time is moving to full time so that leaves a part time option and a full time option. In order to work there I need a recomendation from my bishop which won't be hard to get.

Just do what I did when I was a kid to get a little extra money. Mow lawns, wash cars, shovel snow, let wierd old guys take pictures of you in your underwear, etc. I managed to save up a lot of money doing a bunch of odd jobs like that.

Hacker, ask your parents to talk to their friends. If you want a job that bad someone who they know can probably help you out. Also, don't supermarkets always hire people?

GP speaks truth.

What sort of stuff were they making you do to get hired at that place? I'm sorry it didn't work out.

ha HA!

In all seriousness, GP's right. I'm ashamed to admit that I have never walked into a place and got a job based own my own merits. Every job I've had I got because of an internel reference. And some of those jobs have been amazing, like my $13 dishwashing job.

Even fast food, I needed a reference from the Regional Manager to get the job.

McDonalds might do it though. And as much as McDs sucks.....it's a job.

I remember when I was job-hunting a while back but I can't remember when, but that's irrelevant. Anyway, I give my application to the foreman, and somebody comes up to me (presumably the owner) and says "Do you want this job? Then be here at 7:00 tommorow morning!"

I asked my Dad what to make of that and he said to stay the hell away from that place.

I'm must admit, my summer job this year I got through my dad's connections at the thruway. I'm a toll both bitch, but I get paid 12 bucks an hour and I get an additional dollar for working overnight, an extra 80 cents for working a full shift and on holidays, I'll get an aditional 40 cents. The only downside is that I will get a phone call for work at random hours. Say i'll be in my house at 8 at night, i'll get a call to come in to work for 9 PM and only work for about two hours. Then the next day I'm fully scheduled to work, I'll get the call at the end of my shift on the CB radio and have to switch toll stations and work an additional 4 hours. For on average 13 dollars plus, I can't complain.

Worse case scenario you work at a Wal-Mart at a temp postion for remodeling or something. They'd make you work for shit hours, but at least you can have the money for you pathetic purposes (like your small porno colletions, or your need to buy some crap)

Hacker, you won't get one.

You must be 18 to be a cashier there and with the downturn in the economy they are going to put you at the bottom of the list due to your age.

McDonald's buddy... it is your last resort.

Wal-mart isn't worth the headaches. They fired me a few weeks ago and I'm still out a job. Not only did they fire me right before my vacation, they also made sure to list that I threatened a customer (when in reality all I said was that a bullet to the head would be preferable to the work I was doing at the time). McDonald's is a solid choice, albeit a job that doesn't demand any respect. At this point in you life though respect isn't going to be synonymous with most of the jobs open to you. But yeah, whoever suggested going to a temp agency has my vote. I don't know if you have to be eighteen to utilize their services, but it's certainly worth a try.
