This is the greatest movie trailer ever made, and even though it is fan-made, I think they should really use it:

I hope they work in a few catch phrases from their respective actors.
I wanna hear Arnold say "I'll be back."
Dolph Lungren say "I must break you."
Bruce Willis say "Yippee Kayay motherfucker."
Stallone say "I am the law!" (or I'd settle for "Murdock......I'm comin' to get YOU!"

The original trailer was pretty badass. The new TV trailer with "Paradise City" in it is awkward. I love GN'R, but the song is completely out of place.

If they turn out to be inexpendable, I hope they get Seagal and JCVD for the sequel. Commercial success has a way of changing people's minds.

I concur.
Did Seagal turn down a role in this one? I know JCVD did.

Yeah, Seagal was offered a cameo by Stallone and turned it down because he doesn't like the producer, Avi Lerner. Lerner produced Belly of the Beast, Out for a Kill, and Ticker and I guess he and Seagal didn't see eye to eye.

One look at the cast says it all. I wouldn't be surprised if the Academy makes a new category for this movie. Can you imagine the acceptance speech those guys would deliver? I sure as hell can't.

Yeah, they wanted Snipes, but due to his legal troubles, he couldn't leave the country to shoot in South America.
I'm not sure about Chuck Norris, but I think he should have had a cameo as the President of The US or something.

Going to see this in about two hours with the wife, and we're both flipping out and killing people because we're so pumped.

So, saw the Expendables... and it wasn't the most badass movie ever. The action was great, the violence was phenomenal, but the character development... didn't exist. There wasn't any real feeling of comraderie between the characters, and it really detracted from the experience. Both the wife and I agreed, we'd have rather seen Scott Pilgrim at full price and saved Expendables for matinee on Sunday. It's a shame, but whatevs. I'd give it a B.

Thumbs up. I agree with aeonic. No character development. They needed at least one scene with banter between all of them. Or at a bar. Also, too much shakey cam. Too much.
Either way, it felt like Rambo on steroids. The new Rambo. But with the cast of the original predator.
I still enjoyed it though. And I hope they do have a sequel of sorts.

Thirded on the opinion. That said "Remember this shit for Christmas!" Terry Crewes was used just enough and I too missed the sense of them having camraderie. I really liked the Li/Lundgren fight. "I was just gonna scare 'em."

Why Was Jean-Claude Van Damme Deemed Expendable for 'The Expendables'?
Quote: |
Van Damme, it turns out, did get a call from Stallone to join his team of Expendables, but he wasn't thrilled with the pitch. He told TotalFilm, "Stallone gave me a part in his next movie. [He] said, 'You're gonna make lots of money.' I don't want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it's going to be." So Van Damme, showing admirable dedication to the purity of his craft, passed.
In a 2009 press conference, Van Damme recounted pretty much the same story, adding that he'd advised Stallone that, instead of doing "The Expendables," Stallone should make a movie where Sly plays a "tough priest." According to Van Damme, Stallone found this "insulting." |
You mileage may vary whether this was a valid reason or a stupid one.

So is it as violent and gory as the fourth Rambo?

Just about, yeah, but it doesn't save the movie. Again, great action, great violence/gore, but after an application of hindsight's 20/20 spectacles, I'd have rather skipped it, gone to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and rented it when it came out.

Being as this reason came from the man who recently starred in Universal Solider 3: Direct To Video, it's a stupid one.
Saw this Saturday night. It was a lot of fun and I'd see it again.
