OK I know everyone has already seen it, but I just saw it last night. Very pretty, storyline was a bit predictable, but all in all a very enjoyable movie.

I blame the fandumb hype backlash for my now complete lack of interest to see this at theaters.

i've heard great things about the 3d version. the story sucks from what i understand, but the 3d was great. not in your face, but subtle and very immersive

Yeah, it's a little disorienting for the first few minutes, but once you get used to it the 3d totally works.

I still havn't seen it, I liked Inglorious Basterds quite a bit and really liked The Hurt Locker.
Even though some people rave about it and it made a ton of money, I just don't have much interest in it for whatever reason.

Meh, it's clearly not the BEST MOVIE EVAR, but like I said, it's an entertaining eyegasm flick that is totally worth the ticket price. It's a bit long, but more of the wow it's dark outside now kind of long as apposed to the wow my ass is falling off kind of long. The creepy furrytastic cat people are totally made bearable by the inclusion of a mech knife fight. Plus the battle at the end is pretty sweet.

i still havent seen this movie

‘Avatar’ has already made over $2 billion dollars in receipts across the globe, but the studio behind the movie, 20th Century Fox, still plans to make even more money off of it.
James Cameron announced in an interview that the movie may be released later in this year with more footage added in from scenes that did not make the final cut.
Cameron stated that the wildcard is that the film may come out again in the fall in the hopes that it will come back strong earning somewhere around a few hundred million dollars more from those who want to get the full experience.
He stated that they realize that the audience may not want to head out to an old film due to the fact that there are many new summer films to compete with, but the studio has already begun to think about this fact and is adding in some creative touches that will make it hard to stay away.
Head of IMX Richard Gelfond stated that the helmer has about forty extra minutes that could be included, and a post from the Trailer Park Movie Blog on Myspace stated that these scenes may be in the film when it is re-released at a time when there is little competition.
Most likely, before Avatar returns to the box office a 2D version of the DVD will probably already have been released, with talks on the same blog stating that it may be coming in April or May later this year. |

lol wuss
most theaters hire high school kids. most high school kids dont give a crap if you are sneaking around.
same goes w/call centers for cable/satellite companies. they hire kids out of high school. you can ask for free movie channels and they'll usually hook you up. they dont care if you are only supposed to offer those to new customers.
at least it used to be that way before most call centers got outsourced to New fucking Delhi.

Avatar can be summed up like this:
It was not the best movie I've ever seen, but it was the best movie-going experience I've ever had. IMAX/3D is awesome.
The plot is as formulaic as it gets, but I think that's a plus for a movie like this. A few minutes in you know what all the major plot points are going to be so that frees you up to just enjoy the ride and get truly immersed in it.
It'll lose a lot on DVD or Blu Ray, but in the theater itself it was a great experience.

Thank you Lord, an objective view of a movie!
I've (finally) seen the movie itself (though not in IMAX... Or a theater for that matter...) and have to agree with some of the points here.
However, for me, it wasn't inmersive at all since IMHO there should be a proper balance of visuals and plot. The visuals, while pretty, wasn't mind blowing because 1) I've seen artists that can do much better than that, and 2) I was too distracted calling the cliches, er, tropes as I saw them coming.

I just got it on DVD and saw it for the first time, WHAT THE CRAP! It's not that great. Admittedly it can't make sweet hot love to my eyeballs as well as it could of in the theaters. But it should have been able to stand up to the hype without the special effects. Story was just too mediocre.... Or my TV is too small... probably both.

No, I'm with you 'Loaf. I saw it (in 2D...migraines) and, while it was impressive, it didn't feel nearly as groundbreaking as everyone seemed to be touting. Additionally, as has been well documented, the story and writing are certainly nothing special in and of themselves.
I'll take ANY of the LOtR movies (or Star Wars, or any number of other great fantasty/sci-fi films) over Avatar any day.

lol i dont think ill watch this movie til it gets rereleased in theaters w/the additional 40 minutes. since the only way ANYONE should watch this is in 3D, it doesnt make sense that i watch it in 2D.

Well Netflix signed some deal with many studios to delay new release for 28 days so they could get a better back-catalog of streaming content so I have to wait a while to get Avatar on DVD.
Still though I have many of the same complaints many people have. Sure the scenery is beautiful but I knew in my heart I've seen the entire thing before.
I love James Cameron but when he just copies something you can just tell. I like Titanic but in the end it is Romeo & Juliet in a way.
Avatar is enjoyable that is all. I was glad when The Hurt Locker won best picture at the Academy Awards because it deserved it.
I remember being pissed when Titanic won back at the 1998 Academy Awards just because LA Confidential was such a more deserving movie.

I bought the DVD the other day, still haven't seen it yet. I keep putting it off because I don't want to be disappointed by it.

I followed my friends' opinions and bought it, then saw it for the first time that night. I thought it was really decent. Not really as revolutionary as everyone says, but still highly enjoyable, and I don't regret buying it at all.

Just saw this on video. Very much "okay." I'd see it in theatres if it came out again, but it was pretty cool as it was.
Here's the thing though: did ANYONE else feel like almost all the visuals were direct rip-offs from "Beyond Good and Evil"? I Googled it and it looks like no one else made the connection so maybe I've lost my mind, but almost all of the creatures and plants on Pandora (not to mention the color scheme, which HAS to be a direct copy) is very, very close to the game. I mean, they're so close there's no way it can be a coincidence, can it?

Now that you mention it Hawk...
I thought it looked a lot like Felucia from Star Wars myself.

From what I understood, Cameron came up with this movie idea ten years ago but simply didn't have the technology to present it the way he wanted. Now you'd think after ten years he could come up with a better script, but instead comes up with a completely cheesy script that looks like it was geared toward a twelve year old audience. I probably would have enjoyed this movie more if I had seen it on the big screen (the special effects were state-of-the-art), but since I saw it on my little television I wasn't exactly wowed by it.
