I don't see what all the hype is about? It's just a DS Lite, with a camera and a slightly larger screen.
Oooohhhh.... What a revolution!

...and a music player.
I dunno, I don't even have half the stuff it features, so that's why I'm getting it, as an all-in-one type deal.

Yes, but for many people. They already have MP3 players, and just about every mobile phone now has a camera, do you really need the extra stuff?
If you don't have them, then it's a great buy, but it just seems kinda pointless.
The hype around it, I mean. Would anybody freak out this much, if Sony anounced a camera and microphone for the PSP? Nope.

This is the key. Plus, I don't have a mobile phone anyway...
But I do see what you're saying now. I guess maybe this'll help boost sales of the DS? Maybe?

The processor is 2 times the amount of the original DS and it has 4 times as much RAM. In layman's terms: More power for better games (and even emulation, wink wink) which ARE coming.
The camera (and possibly the music player) could have tons of new gameplay purposes. WarioWare is the beginning.
The bigger screen is a big thing (at least for me), I'm tired of squinting at my DS lite's.
DSiWare, as mentioned.
Infinitely better D-Pad and buttons. Better for fighting games and well, every damn thing else.
You don't need to turn the DSi off and back on again, just to play another game. You can hot-swap cartridges. Same thing for setting the brightness, which has 5 levels now.
Improved wireless support, too. WEP, WPA...

Okay, so it's a brand new system then, and shouldn't be a considered a revision of the DS. If they change the hardware so it can play games that it's older brothers can't, then it is a brand new system, and they need to give it a new name.
DS
DS Lite
DSi
You see the problem here?
Dumbass people (Which, with the user base of the DSs, is quite a few) will buy DSi games for thier DS and DS Lite's and then get pissed when they don't work.

it can play the DS games. it wont have a slot for the GBA games, so its slimmer. and just like the Wii has WiiWare, the DSi will have DSWare. and im assuming it will have a virtual console feature of sorts since you will be able to use 'nintendo points' to buy games.
but i agree, they need to change the name to not confuse the average gamer. otherwise, like knyte said, they will buy DSi specific games that wont work on their older DS'

They could put a label on the box that says "Only for DSi", just like they did when the Game Boy Color came out.

this is fucking retarded:

Watch out parents! The DSi could put your kids at the mercy of child predators alert Arkansas police.
A local news report points out the the DSi doesn't only have a web browser, but it has a web browser and an embedded camera. Cue the hyper-active alarm bells!
"Now not only can the children be contacted, but they can be asked to provide pictures, video," says Sergeant Adam Holland, who investigates internet crimes against children.
See, before parents were worried about people drawing lewd pictures on the DS's PictoChat and now they're worried about people taking them. Or something.
It's really a good thing that kids these days don't have cell phones and that cell phones don't have cameras or internet browsers!
The local news report does point out that the DSi does have parental features — such as the ability to lock out certain websites. Explains, Sergeant Holland, "If the only website you want your kids to go to is YouTube, you go into the parental lockout feature, put in YoutTube's URL, and that's the only website your kids will be able to go to."
Phew, because there's nothing inappropriate on YouTube at all. Nothing. |

I heard there's people working on a hack like the Homebrew Channel for the DSi can't wait for that. The console itself looks awesome as well.

Remember when parents were worried pedophiles would kidnap their children using Picto-Chat? That never even almost happened. You'd think people would learn their lesson.

Actually, I'm excited about it because you'll be able to download games into the DSi. That's what I'm really excited about. Here's to hoping that we'll be able to load some of our Virtual Console games into it.

Well, there were a lot of Game Boy games that I missed as a kid and wanted really badly (not to mention the numerous possible imports, such as X).
And if we play our cards right, we'll also be able to download Game Gear and Neo Geo Pocket games.

Well, I am bumping it because I just opened mine. I think it is quite nice. A bit expensive, but the system itself is gorgeous. Nice looking buttons and case. Only complaints lookswise is the powerbutton and the headphone jack area. Other than like great looking device.
Screen is so much more... responsive than my original red DS. And it works with my fingers! That is a nice plus. Screen is nice, buttons respond well, sound is clear... All in all very little complaints.
Pisses me off: New stylus. Yes it is a major improvement over the old ones. It is bulky enough not to cramp fingers and long enough to fit nicely in my hand. But merely the fact that there are 3 different kinds of DS styluses...
The charger is different. This bothered me because I still have my old ds and need a new charger. Ah well.
I will maybe say some more when I get my hands on it more.

Ran to Target during my lunchbreak today and got one of the last black DSis they had. Haven't cracked it yet. One thing I've noticed though is that the box is damn heavy.

They pack two bibles in there. One in English. One in Spanish. Plus two or seven pamphlets.
Once you read it all it tells you how to actually get your DSi. Which is in another package.

I enjoy the DS and I want one of these eventually. This is definitely one I don't feel the need to buy right away though. I will wait for the price to come down and for some games to start utilizing the new features.

Aside from DSware, are they going to release game for this that can't run on a regular DS?

They probably will, Syd. After all, Nintendo probably doesn't want those cameras to go to waste.
Aside from that, I probably won't mind if they didn't, since the DSware and the Virtual Console were both enough to get me to buy one.

I heard that anyone who signs onto the DSi's shop channel by Oct 6th gets 1000 Nintendo Points free on it. Any confirmation to this?
