I don't understand the appeal to Gladiator.
I thought Russell Crowe's character was uninteresting; his static facial expressions and dialogue annoyed me after a while. The whole movie was just kind of a bore. Even the scenes that were supposed to be exciting, such as Russell Crowe fighting a tiger, didn't do anything for me.
Not a completely terrible movie, but not worthy of Best Picture.

I enjoy Inception and Shutter Island. I don't think Inception is the greatest movie ever, but I saw it twice in theatres, and I'd watch it again without any hesitation.
Now, I didn't come in here to call you out for not liking Inception or Shutter Island. I came in here to mention this: Shutter Island and Inception have the same lead actor, came out in the same calendar year, and both investigate the theme of reality vs. perception. For some reason, Inception is generally considered "brilliant" while Shutter Island is considered "just okay". I would consider both films to be of above average quality, would consider neither to be especially exceptional, and would argue that there is no significant qualitative difference between the two.

I think the difference in perception is that Inception feels more high concept, what with being about technology, re-writing people's memories and such. That sort of thing HAS been done before, but not quite in that way, Shutter Island is a movie built around more of an M. Night Shyamalan "what a twist!" gimmick.

I think people like Inception better because the ending is more ambiguous, so they can argue over what happened. Sort of like Total Recall.
Speaking of which, Colin Farrell needs to die a horrible death before May 15th so they can't start filming the Total Recall remake. And also, because Colin Farrell sucks in general.

Yeah why does that have to happen? And with Colin Farrel! I'd rather it have fucking /WILL/ Ferrell. Not really, I'm just saying that to show my hatred for Colin.

Now I'm imaginging Will Ferrell doing over-the-top impersonations of the classic Arnold lines and for some reason it's hilarious.

Yeah, In Bruges was a cool flick, I forgot about that. And he was good in Dr. Parnassus, where he basically played himself: a douchebag.

There's a Total Recall remake? Goddammit! I guess they'll replace the pretty cool animatronics with shitty less realistic looking CGI.

I know right? How is it that stuff from ten, twenty years ago looks better than the crap we get now?
Also: how is it that some CGI, like in LoTR, looks awesome, while the majority looks like shit?

I'd watch Will Ferrel impersonate Arnold.

Scarface is pretty good, but the pacing is wonky... I can see how it was a big deal when it came out.
I always kind of hated how much everyone trumpeted on and on about fucking Jurassic Park, but that may be related to the fact it was one of the few movies my minimalistic household owned while I was growing up, and my subsequent loathing to watch it for the fifty-billionth time; as apposed to it actually being overrated. So I really shouldn't have posted this here? Any one else dislike JP?

Wait a minute...I'm thinking of Tough Guys...not Wise Guys...fuck you Brian!

A Total Recall remake?! Yeah, what the fuck? That's it. I'm just gonna go to hollywood and kick the first person I see in the balls.

A Cuban Refugee working his way up the Colombian Drug Distribution ladder and eventually becoming a big bad boss type guy, and eventually dies because of his own hubris. It's the template for all the get a real job and stop selling drugs movies out there today, at least the good ones.

IS there any sort of black or at least grey market in your area? If there is I guarantee you there is a scarface type individual to be found.

Scarface is pretty overrated. King of New York was pretty much what Scarface should've been.
