Yeah, if I had been expecting Starship Troopers instead something intelligent, I would have liked it better. That being said, Starship Troopers was a much more intelligent film than District 9.

I fucking loved Starship Troopers. Let me specify. One. Not Two, or fucking Three. Just one.

Sucker Punch Trailer:
Seems like hot-chicks and fighting + dragons + message of female empowerment. It's like buffy the vampire slayer (hot chicks fighting) but with a better message, and cooler action scenes.

I was surprisingly pleased with Starship Troopers III. They really played up the crazy fascist vibes in it.

Shit...Emily Browning in a schoolgirl outfit, wielding a samurai sword...DAMN IT, go back to being a brunette and I'll see this movie in a heartbeat! Those other girls like Vanessa Hudgens can GTFO. You know what? Asian chick, you can stay; I'll forgive you for Dragonball Evolution if you keep that outfit on.
On second thought, you're not forgiven, but keep the outfit on anyway.

Did Jeebus just lock Jeebus? Wow. That's...pretty awesome. It's like a cop writing himself a ticket.
Anyways, yeah, movie looks stupid. Why?

This movie looks like the opposite of Dragon's Age 2. Critics hated the fucking shit out of it but fans seem to be mostly positive about it.
Redbox/HBO for me, but I'll definitely watch it.

What a strange set of reviews this movie has gotten. I haven't seen critics so wildly and vehemently split on something in some time.

The notion that these characters are deeply developed and heartfelt is nonsense. There is virtually no plot, and even less character development. There are 5 main girls. One of them has about 2 lines in the whole movie, and the main character has like 4. The only development of these characters is "Hey, these two are sisters, and one of them is kind of a bitch." That positive review is clearly someone who loves it because he wants to be on the outside, much like how he was stupid enough to love Watchmen and refer to the book 300 as drivel.

One question: is this on the "classic bad" level like Flash Gordon? I saw Battle LA (read: was forced to for my cousin's birthday) and thought that was unbelievably terrible.
Wasn't this Sucker Punch at one point supposed to be a big film, or a big one aimed towards gamers?

There's a ridiculous amount of pandering, so it's clearly aimed at gamers. It's like watching someone else play WoW and Call of Duty with anime and porn on in the background. But with way less plot.

Well, I watched it yesterday
*There may be spoilers past here*
And I gotta say, it could have been much better. The whole thing started off well, right until the second "dance" (I wouldn't be surprised to find out that no one in the movie took a single dancing lesson). Right up to that point, I was really enjoying the whole "music video-like" experience, the whole "movie stopping for a little bit to just show something different". Sadly, I don't think they went deep enough for that approach to work. I mean, it started off well enough, but the second time, it was the same as the first, only less fun. and the third time was even less fun. It's like the whole movie peaked way too early, and I was stuck waiting 60 minutes for it to end.
Also, did anyone feel like the whole strippers thing was just to add boobs to the story? I mean, there's really no reason for it to exist, except to show some curves. It's like they decided that the mental institution wasn't "hot enough", so they just took the story and the characters and transplanted them to a strip club (Can it even be called a strip club if no one STRIPS? ).
*End of possible Spoilers, start of TL;DR*
The idea was good, but when someone takes a good idea and makes a movie with it, and the movie bombs (I don't know if it has, but there's been a lot of people saying it sucks), then no one tries to do it again for a good while. And that's a shame :/

Watched it last night, after fighting about going to see it with my wife most of the weekend (she wanted to, I didn't) and we both thought it kind of sucked. The sexuality was flaccid at best and even the action was meh. No real meaningful dialogue and a fucking bummer ending. I would give it a C-. Also, it came in behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules in the box office with about 19 million. Not a good sign.
And the reviewer who said it was like Brazil for dummies, by dummies, wasn't even close. Brazil had a very different feel to it, like you knew it was tongue in cheek. SuckerPunch didn't even have that.

To be honest, I'm sick and tired of the "leave brain at home" excuse movies like these bring up. It's not stating that it's mindless entertainment, but rather that you should STFU and take it like a bitch.
The "mindless" part doesn't come from your brain physically shutting down; it comes from the movie being entertaining enough that you get inmersed in the experience. Face it, how many times you walked out of a theater thinking "OMFG BEST MOVIE EVER!!!", only that days/hours later you start thinking about how bad the plot was? That's because the movie, despite of being stupid, succeeded on being entertaining. The moment you start thinking about the problems while watching the movie is the moment the movie starts failing to be entertaining.
That said, I woukd like to see Sucker Punch, but more than likely waiting for the DVD, since while the trailer looked promising, I have a bad impression that I have to sit down through a ton of dribble before getting to the good parts.

Aeonic, if you would say the movie kind of sucked and say a bunch of negative things with no positive things and then give the movie a C-, I think you're being a little kind with your grade.
