I miss the days where Goths wore piecemeal armor and caved people's heads in with crude axes.

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

Except 99.99% of all goth chicks look far more horrible than her, and even she's no knockout. Maybe like a 6. Her eyes are way too far apart.

I think I really just made that post because I'm pissed off at the mall goth scene for making the majority of the public think that Goth music consists of crap like My Chemical Romance and all the other terrible bands that are advertised so heavily at Hot Topic, when in reality goth music is stuff like Sisters of Mercy and Christian Death.

I'd argue that and say I'll_bite_your_ear has the worst one so far. It's just an x in a white box, for crap's sake.

Amen to that! Sisters of Mercy are brilliant... I think if they played My Chemical Romance at New City Suburbs or the Temple (our two local goth bars) there would be a riot. I've heard a lot of crazy shit at new city, even industrial remixes of Lady Gaga but not My Chemical Romance! ugh!

My favorite bands right now are VNV Nation, Icon of Coil, She Wants Revenge, Apoptygma Berzerk, Aesthetic Perfection, Grendel, Ivardensphere, Cyclon 9, Xeromancer, Suicide Commando, Mesmers Eyes and FGFC820 I can even tolerate Mindless Self Indulgence, Mando Diao, and Lady Tron but fucking My Chemical Romance!! ugh!!!!!!!

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

Why does everyone hate on MCR? They're a great band with good, catchy songs and most of their "emo lyrics" are actually tongue in cheek. I don't really get how that one band is blamed for the creation of the entire emo scene and why people have to pretend to dislike them. You can admit that it's good music without hurting your precious fake individualism or looking like some kind of pussy, ok?

Man, I hate teenagers.

My main beef with MCR is that people constantly, on the radio, compared their Black Parade song to Queen. Now, I guess that the disc jockeys are just as culpable in that, if not moreso, but nothing that band has done has been as good as anything Freddie Mercury sang, and that includes, "Flash, ah ah ah ah, savior of the universe!". Just like MCR will never make a rockin' song that's used in a Highlander TV show. That and the guy's voice just really annoys the bejeezus out of me, and I'm a guy who can easily listen to Red Roses for the Devil's Whore by Cradle of Filth without complaint. Sorry p-juice, it's not trendism. It's just personal preference.

Yeah, that's fine, but a good 75% of people who say they dislike MCR are doing so just to pretend they're hip because it's the cool thing to do. Somehow MCR became the flag, or official music of the emo scene through no fault of their own, so to most people that means if you hate emos, you have to hate MCR as well, which is gay.

By the way, when I first heard Black Parade, it reminded me of Queen's sound as well which is what I presume the DJs are referring to. I don't think they are saying MCR is as legendary as Queen is and comparing the bands; it's just a comparison of sound in that particular song, which I agree with.

See, and I find it funny that MCR is the 'poster boys' for the whole Emo scene when it's genesis was actually much longer in coming than that. I think that the whole genre name itself is kind of silly, to be honest. The first time I ever came across it was in, I think, 97 or 98 in an advertisement that I'd gotten with Acrobatic Tenement by At the Drive In, and after doing a little research, found out that it was something about 'emotional music'. Frankly, I don't really think I've ever heard any music by a recording artist that DIDN'T evoke some emotion in me, even if that was just a very mild distaste. That's like calling fiction books 'word based non-historical or biographical writing'. Also, when I actually went to Emo's in Austin, TX, about a year or two later, I didn't see any fucking scene kids running around. How did the term end up getting shifted from bands like ATDI or Drive Like Jehu to the current melange of outfits now getting labeled that? Anyone know?

The Black Parade is a damn good album. Most of their earlier stuff is just annoying lo-fi noise though.

I was a cookie cutter Marilyn Manson fanboy when I was a teenager, I think the whole goth thing is really a phase that young people go through. Look at it this way, do I still like Manson's music? Yeah sure. Do I still dress all funny and try to get a rise out of the more "normal" people? No. I really think that whole I'm being unique and different but don't persecute me because of it or you're obviously some sort of intolerant nazi lifestyle is probably just a symptom of alienated teenagers trying to assert their control over life, kind of like how two year olds always say NO to everything as soon as they learn what no means. Keep in mind this post is not in any way ragging on those who choose to limit themselves with silly labels, just a personal observation.

Average people are scared and/or don't understand goths. They will pay attention to them, mock and ridicule. Its the Nature of the beast. If you dress that way, expect the reaction. If I get a flaming chupacabra tattooed on my forehead, it would make me an asshole to ask "Why does everyone keep looking at me and making comments? They Just don't understand me!!!" Same theory applies for Goths. Just not quite as extreme as a flaming Chupacabra Tattoo. Although... That might actually be a pretty sweet tattoo....

Yes, you must get it now. If you do I will seriously consider getting a tarantula tattooed across my face.

I dug their earlier album before The Black Parade as well (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge), but you're right Syd; Black Parade is a great album and a massive step forward for the band. It's hard to imagine anyone not liking it to be honest.
