Seriously. In Vice City you would have to walk a few blocks to see a cop. In IV, every block has a minimum of two cops in a car and one on the street, and I'm not even exaggerating.
I do think IV was definitely missing something, but online play is excellent. Vice City is my favorite GTA, and I have yet to play San Andreas.
As for the change in characterisations for recent GTA's, I feel we need more Tommy Vercetti types. If I want to play a good guy, I'll play True Crime (which was really good, by the way).

I can understand why some would prefer Vice City to San Andreas because of the 80's setting. But for me, due to the advancements in game play, it is hard to go backwards. Its only when I go back and play the earlier ones that I realize how much I take things like bailing out of a moving car, or even swimming for granted.

Everyone has their kryptonite, for Tommy and Claude it's water!! Actually, there are a few movies where the hard man will turn around and say "Look, i can't fucking swim ok"

Just one more rag on Zero's plane mission in SA. Why in the fuck couldn't CJ have gunned those guys down from a car, instead of a fidgety ass remote control plane?

It's one of those missions that when it's over, you think to yourself "Thank fuck!, I hope I'll never have to do that again"

I've gone on massive 5-star, half-hour long rampages in IV. Half the fun is seeing how long you can last against the horde of cops.

Or if stores like GameStop let people try games before they bought them...

There's an easier way to do it, start at the top and work your way down, and you'll never have any problems with it. At least they aren't moving targets like Zero's mission, that was just unmerciful.

But CJ is a "Gangsta", with a shit ton of guns, he should have told Zero he'd handle it and burned rubber out of the parking lot in a lowrider, possibly waving his gun in the air like he just didn't care. The last fucking thing he should have done was crawl up on the roof and fuck around with some dork's RC planes.

My point has been already made by everyone here. There's nothing I can add...
Except that I felt kind of guilty when I realized I was having exponentially more fun with Saints Row 2 than I ever had with GTA IV, which actually took *conscious will bending* on my part to complete. Now I'm looking forward to Saints Row 3, while I'm just mildly curious about GTA V.

My reasons:
-Flight is too limited in GTA IV
-I loved the country/bumblefuck regions of SA
-More interesting/funny characters in SA
-The tighter, more realistic control scheme is too unforgiving to be fun
-The cops are too aggressive. In SA, you could kill like 10 people before you even got 1 star. In GTA IV you just punch someone in the face and they come after you. It limits your ability to go on rampages, which is like 80% of the fun in a GTA game. |
I agree, especially on the country areas and the police. I liked in the PS2 GTA games it would take a while before the police to start going after you. In GTA 4 they go after you for what the other games would call minor. Punch a guy the cops are all over you. In the PS2 games you could kill several people before the cops even noticed.
